Marjosse - Bordeaux 2023

Marjosse, the magic of the place.

Château Marjosse is a historic estate built in 1782 and located 14 km south of Saint-Emilion. Its history took a major turn in the early 1990s when the Deleuze family decided to lease part of the parcels to a young ambitious winemaker named Pierre Lurton, who would become the current General Manager of Yquem and Cheval Blanc. Little by little, he bought back the different parcels of the estate and opened a new chapter in 2017 with the arrival of Jean Marc Domme as technical director. The rest of the story is still being written as Pierre and Jean-Marc dive deeper and deeper into the subtleties of this magnificent terroir seeking to capture its essence vintage after vintage.

Its 35ha vineyard is located on exceptional clay and limestone soils. Pierre Lurton's "Secret Garden" is a patchwork of young and old vines, almost a century old.

Tannin plein de charme et de sensualité. La finale porte bien en bouche et c’est déjà très bon. En bref, un marjosse fidèle à ses convictions.

I was thrilled to be able to taste the 2023 Château Marjosse, which I don't often get to taste. Coming from the home estate of Pierre Lurton (now retired from Cheval Blanc), it has a beautiful nose of pure red and black fruits as well as spicy wood, tobacco, and a touch of flowers. Balanced, medium-bodied, and elegant, this beautiful 2023 will evolve for at least a decade.

Fruity, forward, soft, round, and already delicious, the wine offers a lot of bang for the buck, as it is an easy pleasure to drink, and it sells for a song. Drink from 2026-2034. 89-91 Pts.

Pierre Lurton's home estate, and he has done a wonderful job in 2023 of delivering a fruit-forward, easy drinking wine that has personality, spice and a saline kick that gives an extra level of interest to the brambed red fruits. Good stuff. A value pick. 25hl/h yield this year, after being impacted by mildew, but clearly they have done a good job of sorting, something that was not always easy in the Entre deux Mers region.

A gourmand, straightforward wine, the 2023 Marjosse exhales aromas of violet, blueberries, mulberries and flowers, followed by a medium-bodied, juicy and layered palate with a delicate, fresh core of fruit and a mouthwatering, penetrating and ethereal finish. This wine represents an excellent value, showcasing a delightful balance of flavor and finesse.

A delightful Bordeaux showcasing smooth, well-integrated tannins. Notes of dark berries and hints of citrus peel are complemented by subtle floral undertones. It's approachable and already quite delicious. Beautiful, inviting fruit character.
