Well-crafted for the vintage. Good aromas of plums, cherries and toasted oak. Medium- to full-bodied, with firm, velvety tannins and a long finish. Very well-done. Best after 2003. 7,650 cases made.

This 1999 is one of the finest efforts of the vintage. It offers up complex aromatics consisting of herbs, red and black fruits, minerals, acacia flowers, and licorice. The dark plum color does not possess the saturation of a vintage such as 2000, but this is pure seduction in a medium-bodied, beautifully balanced, nicely-textured effort. It is virtually impossible to duplicate such a wine anywhere else in the world. Anticipated maturity: now-2012.

Dense ruby/purple-colored, with a friendly, open-knit perfume of red and black fruits, smoke, minerals, and vanillin, this 1999 offers a velvety texture, medium body, and lovely fruit as well as purity. It will have many friends when released next year. Anticipated maturity: 2002-2014.

A beauty from the Margaux appellation (probably the vintage's most homogenous area for fine wine), this floral-scented, sexy, complex, dark purple-colored 1999 exhibits medium body, sweet tannin, ripe fruit, and fine persistence and length. While not a blockbuster heavyweight, it is a beautifully-etched, concentrated, fruit-filled effort built around subtlety and depth. The soft tannin and ripe fruit suggest it will drink well young, but evolve easily for 15 or more years. Anticipated maturity: 2003-2018.
