The 2014 Poujeaux is striking, with silky tannins buffering the juicy fruit and terrific overall balance. Dark red cherry, spice, new leather, cedar and licorice are laced into a super-expressive, resonant finish. The 2014 is bold, forward and absolutely delicious. The blend is 60% Cabernet Sauvignon, 35% Merlot and 5% Cabernet Franc. This is a terrific showing from Poujeaux, the Cuvelier family and Consulting Winemakers Stéphane Derenoncourt and Julien Lavenu. Tasted three times.

Deep ruby in color with vanilla, cassis and spicy black raspberries, the wine is fresh, crisp and sweet and ends with sweet dark chocolate covered black raspberries. From a blend of 60% Cabernet Sauvignon, 35% Merlot and 5% Petit Verdot, the wine reached 13% alcohol. 89-91 Pts

The Château Poujeaux 2014 is a blend of 60% Cabernet Sauvignon, 5% Petit Verdot and 35% Merlot. It offers blackberry and briary scents on the nose, a little disjointed at first but the aromas coalesce with time. The palate is medium-bodied with crisp tannin. There is satisfying fruit concentration here, finely-tuned acidity and a really quite sophisticated, elegant finish. Classically lined Poujeaux that should settle at the upper end of my banded score.

Dark purplish crimson. Something a little brûlée on the nose. Respectable and well made. Fills the mouth with ripe fruit and then some pretty marked tannins – but no aggressive acidity – kicks in. Correct with light and attractive aromatics. Just a slight lack of energy.

Pretty nose of violets, cassis and blackberry. Palate is supple and round with polished, dense tannins that are well handled. This wine shows good potential to age in the upcoming decade.

Rich autumn fruits nose: ripe and plummy with a classy finish. A wine back to its previous form, with a good future. Drink: 2018-2028 (88)

Balanced and fresh. Shows lots of asphalt and berry character. Full-bodied yet refined and gorgeous. Floral with tobacco. Stealth.

17/20 2020 – 2040

86–88. Barrel Sample. This is a tight wine that showing bright acidity and tannins. The fruit is nervy, very crisp and severe and lacks in richness.

Gras, ambitieux, beau tannin fin, de l’onctuosité et de la race. Très réussi.

Fleshy, with gentle tannins carrying the bitter plum, black cherry, loam and humus hints through the lightly toasted finish.

Nez aux notes terriennes et épicées. Ensemble souple, caressant. Bonne évolution et finale aux notes de cèdre et de cassis.
