Vinous 91-94 / 100 byAntonio Gallonithe5/11/2015 The 2014 Cantenac Brown is very pretty. A model of total understatement, the 2014 stands out for its terrific overall balance. All the elements are in the right place. Sweet red stone fruit, iron, tobacco and cedar are woven into the silky, exquisitely layered finish. Tasted twice.
The Wine Cellar Insider 91-93 / 100 byJeff Levethe5/5/2015 Vibrant, full-bodied and alive with easy to find notes of fragrant violets, blackberry, boysenberry and espresso, this wine continues ripe and sweet with a soft and even, fruit-filled finish. From 65% Cabernet Sauvignon and 35% Merlot, the wine reached 13% alcohol and is being aged in 60% new, French oak barrels. 91-93 Pts
Wine Advocate 91-93 / 100 byNeal Martinthe4/30/2015 The Château Cantenac Brown 2014 is a blend of 65% Cabernet Sauvignon and 35% Merlot. It has a feisty nose compared to its mild-mannered Margaux neighbors: perfumed dark cherries dallying with incense and iris. The palate is medium-bodied with fine tannin, moderate depth of fruit, a little grippy with some lovely tarry notes developing towards the finish that has more substance than intimated by the aromatics. It needs to flesh out during élevage, but presuming it does, this could be a spicy Margaux that will give 15 to 20 years of pleasure.
Jancis Robinson 16,5 / 20 byJancis Robinsonthe4/20/2015 Dark crimson. Floral nose. Quite delicate and full of elderberry flavour. Quite chunky tannins. Solid stuff. Tannins dominate at the moment and may always be a little heavy for the fruit. Drink 2022-2032
Asian Palate 89-90 / 100 byJeannie Cho Lee MWthe4/20/2015 Lifted flavors of violets, cassis and cherry. The palate is supple, fresh and lifted even though there are plenty of firm tannins in the background. A well-crafted, delicious Margaux that will be best in 4 to 5 years.
Decanter.com 17 / 20 bySteven Spurrierthe4/17/2015 Good Merlot-Cabernet nose whereas the palate is more elegant than usual with nice supple length and even some charm. Will open early but also keep. Drink: 2018-2028 (90)
Jamessuckling.com 92-93 / 100 byJames Sucklingthe4/10/2015 A silky red with fine tannins and a beautiful core of ripe fruit. Medium to full body, fine tannins. Polished already.
17/20 2024 – 2044
Wine Enthusiast 92 / 100 byRoger Vossthe4/1/2015 91–93. Barrel Sample. While the wood is showing strongly, with assertive toast and caramel tones, the wine also has plenty of blackberry fruit flavor and lifting acidity that gives great freshness to the wine now and promises successful aging potential. — R.V. Wine Spectator 90-93 / 100 byJames Molesworththe3/31/2015 Very refined, featuring alluring currant and blackberry fruit that glides along the supple structure, with iron and light espressohints filling in on the finish.
