Magnum Chateau Cantenac Brown - Margaux 2014 4df5d4d9d819b397555d03cedf085f48

After a mild and rainy winter, early bud burst, rapid and even flowering, veraison took place slowly, under the watchful eye of the winegrowers and technicians. 4df5d4d9d819b397555d03cedf085f48 Once again, the weather turned out to be our best ally: green work (splitting, leaf stripping, chipping and other green harvests), now commonplace, would not have been enough to compensate for the temperatures " 4df5d4d9d819b397555d03cedf085f48 fresh" from the beginning of summer and to produce a great wine such as the 2014 vintage. 4df5d4d9d819b397555d03cedf085f48 We needed sun and heat... From the end of August, the average temperatures returned to normal and the month of September, very hot and sunny, made it possible, in a very healthy sanitary context, to improve the maturity of the grapes and 4df5d4d9d819b397555d03cedf085f48 to refine the tannins, thus auguring a high quality harvest. 4df5d4d9d819b397555d03cedf085f48 The wine: Cantenac Brown's technical team tastes all the batches, selects the best vats, and, milliliter by milliliter in the test tubes, constitutes the best of the blends. 4df5d4d9d819b397555d03cedf085f48 The question is whether the Merlot from “Basque” and the Cabernet Sauvignon from “Benqueyre” will create a good synergy in the final blend. 4df5d4d9d819b397555d03cedf085f48 After several tests at different percentages, the assembly is there! 4df5d4d9d819b397555d03cedf085f48 The balance is good: roundness, amplitude, a touch of tension and a nice length, Cantenac Brown 2014 is ready. 4df5d4d9d819b397555d03cedf085f48 60% new barrels 4df5d4d9d819b397555d03cedf085f48

The 2014 Cantenac Brown is very pretty. A model of total understatement, the 2014 stands out for its terrific overall balance. All the elements are in the right place. Sweet red stone fruit, iron, tobacco and cedar are woven into the silky, exquisitely layered finish. Tasted twice.

Vibrant, full-bodied and alive with easy to find notes of fragrant violets, blackberry, boysenberry and espresso, this wine continues ripe and sweet with a soft and even, fruit-filled finish. From 65% Cabernet Sauvignon and 35% Merlot, the wine reached 13% alcohol and is being aged in 60% new, French oak barrels. 91-93 Pts

The Château Cantenac Brown 2014 is a blend of 65% Cabernet Sauvignon and 35% Merlot. It has a feisty nose compared to its mild-mannered Margaux neighbors: perfumed dark cherries dallying with incense and iris. The palate is medium-bodied with fine tannin, moderate depth of fruit, a little grippy with some lovely tarry notes developing towards the finish that has more substance than intimated by the aromatics. It needs to flesh out during élevage, but presuming it does, this could be a spicy Margaux that will give 15 to 20 years of pleasure.

Dark crimson. Floral nose. Quite delicate and full of elderberry flavour. Quite chunky tannins. Solid stuff. Tannins dominate at the moment and may always be a little heavy for the fruit.

Lifted flavors of violets, cassis and cherry. The palate is supple, fresh and lifted even though there are plenty of firm tannins in the background. A well-crafted, delicious Margaux that will be best in 4 to 5 years.

Good Merlot-Cabernet nose whereas the palate is more elegant than usual with nice supple length and even some charm. Will open early but also keep. Drink: 2018-2028 (90)

A silky red with fine tannins and a beautiful core of ripe fruit. Medium to full body, fine tannins. Polished already.

17/20 2024 – 2044

91–93. Barrel Sample. While the wood is showing strongly, with assertive toast and caramel tones, the wine also has plenty of blackberry fruit flavor and lifting acidity that gives great freshness to the wine now and promises successful aging potential.

Very refined, featuring alluring currant and blackberry fruit that glides along the supple structure, with iron and light espresso
hints filling in on the finish.
