Luce - the magnificence of Tuscany

A new chapter in the history of the great Tuscan wines was written when Vittorio Frescobaldi met Robert Mondavi in the early 90s. Their encounter gave rise to an ambitious project called Tenuta Luce. The name evokes the sunlight in Montalcino, which is source of life and nourishment. It also marks the passage of the seasons and sets the pace for any agricultural activity. In this way, it was only natural that the sun became the emblem of the estate.

Located in Montalcino, Tenute Luce delivers a unique experience in a place surrounded by nature. Only 88ha of the 249ha of land, is planted with vines. The bright light that comes from the vineyard's specific exposure, the cool breeze and the diversity of soils and altitudes make Luce a place of choice, where the balance of all of these elements is taken care of. Since the very beginning of this project, respect has been at the heart of every action: respect of the earth, of the beauty of nature and of the people who are working daily at Luce.

Lamberto Frescobaldi took over from his father in 2005 and remained faithful to these values. In 2016, he launched the construction of a new winery that is perfectly integrated in Montalcino's landscape.

Lucente is the perfect initiation to Luce wines. This fruity and very pleasant wine is made of Merlot and Sangiovese

The 2020 vintage

Winter was dry and mild. Spring was hot with some rainy episodes in May that created the perfect conditions for flowering to proceed. The rains in June allowed the vines to prepare for the hot and dry Summer. In 2020, the grapes reached perfect maturity under optimal conditions.

Tasting notes

Lucente 2020 shows a brilliant ruby red color. The nose is rich in black fruits such as blueberriesand blackberries, accompanied by a light balsamic and pan brioché note. The palate is softsupported by a nice freshness, with enveloping tannins and a long fruity aftertaste.

Hard to find a better value Tuscan, this is true crowd pleaser, expertly handled to offer maximum pleasure. Savoury edged, raspberry and red fruits, liqourice, smoked and grilled oak notes. This feels fresher and with more momentum than the past few vintages. Aged for 12 months in barrel, mix of new and neutral barrels. 88ha estate, winemaker Alessandro Marini.
