Powerful aromas of blueberries, minerals and licorice. Fantastic dark-fruit character. Full-bodied, with silky, chewy tannins and an intense finish. Lots of ripe-fruit, coffee and berry character. Seriously structured red. More of a full-throttle style. Needs a three or four years to soften. Tiny production from vineyard in Howell Mountain.

The 2010 Cabernet Sauvignon Tache d'Encre is the proverbial iron fist in the velvet glove. Violets, plums, black cherries and cloves jump from the glass in a powerful, structured Cabernet Sauvignon. With time in the glass, more floral, delicate nuances become more prominent, but the 2010 remains a big wine that is going to need time in bottle for the imposing tannins to soften

The 2010 Cabernet Sauvignon Tache d’Encre possesses a blue/purple color in addition to lots of blueberry and smoky blackberry fruit as well as a boatload of tannin. This wine appears set for the long haul, but the tannins are elevated compared to the fruit. It is made in a very different style than Derenoncourt’s extremely mellow, soft, silky Bordeaux wines.
