Inglenook, Blancaneaux - Napa Valley 2023
Blancaneaux, Inglenook’s preeminent white wine
Founded in 1879 by Gustave Niebaum, Inglenook remains the crown jewel of the Napa Valley under the stewardship of the Coppola family. The property has been bought by Francis Ford Coppola in the 1970’s and the wine is made by Philippe Bascaules, General Director of Château Margaux.
Produced since 1999 as a partner to Rubicon, Inglenook’s premier red wine, Blancaneaux is a blend of three estate-grown white Rhône varieties. Marsanne and Roussanne contribute body and minerality, while Viognier adds intense aromas of tropical fruit. These varieties are grown in vineyard blocks that enjoy full morning sun but are in the cooling shadow of Mount St. John by mid-afternoon.

Weather conditions:
A winter of generous rainfall provided abundant soil moisture to start the 2023 growing season. Wet and cold winter soils contributed to timely bud break while a cool early spring prolonged the development from bud break through bloom.
Thanks to the abundant soil moisture, the canopies flourished, ensuring the vines had ample resources for ripening the crop. Bloom occurred in June under ideal conditions, with perfect temperatures and humidity for a successful fruit set. The extended growing season allowed the fruit to retain the fresh character of Marsanne and Roussanne, while enhancing the vibrant bouquet of Viognier.
Tasting notes:
The 2023 Inglenook Blancaneaux, a blend of Marsanne, Roussanne, and Viognier, opens with beautiful white floral aromas elegantly balanced with a touch of lemon. On the palate, the roundness from the Viognier provides a smooth and supple texture, while the finish is lengthy and graceful. Subtle aromas of coriander add a layer of complexity, making this wine both aromatic and well-balanced.
