Les Hauts de Lynch Moussas - Haut-Médoc 2023

“A SINGULAR CLIMATOLOGY FOR AN UNPRECEDENTED VINTAGE”
Mild and cold periods alternate in March leading to a later budburst than in 2022.
Wet and hot spring: high mildew pressure.
A period of fine weather favored flowering in good conditions, without any notable runoff.
This phenomenon, combined with the conditions of last year floral induction, has brought a significant number of berries per grape. No water stress during fruit setting: large size of berries.
These last two points led to a significant harvest potential for vineyards which were not affected by mildew.
June: warm with heavy rain in stormy form.
A dry and unusual July with a cool second half.
Veraison is spread out, in a context of vegetative growth of the vine: delayed degradation of acidity which contributed to produce fresh wines with good acidity.
Exceptionally hot period after August 15th: Such a heat wave after veraison is unprecedented. The reaction of the vine was therefore unpredictable. Above all, we noticed a major slowdown in maturation without any loss of aromas, which could have been the case.
Local thunderstorms in September. This is where the harvest strategy was important and became the reading key of the 2024 vintage.
Thus, after vinification, our wines appear colorful and fruity, with a very present tannin structure and a wonderful freshness.

Dark nose filled with tobacco, blackcurrant and violets. Supple and juicy, clean and precise, not so layered, more linear and straight, with a soft graphite and stony grip that lingers on the tongue. Plenty of firmness and good structure.

Wet earth, cigar box, and red berries define the wine with ease. On the palate, the wine is medium-bodied, fruity and fresh, with sweetness to the soft, red currants in the finish. It is interesting to note that the wine is produced using fruit from 2 appellations, Pauillac and Haut-Medoc. Drink from 2026-2032. 88-90 Pts.

Deep inky colour, cloves and black pepper, this is pretty intense, cappuicino and roasted coffee bean as it opens, plenty of firm tannins, juicy on the finish. Harvest September 12 through to October 5. Axel Marchal consultant at this wine, which contains a declassified plot of Pauillac vines among the blend.

The 2023 Les Hauts de Lynch-Moussas has a light bouquet that needs a little more fruit concentration. It’s just a bit austere compared to the Grand Vin. The palate is medium-bodied with firm tannins; there’s thankfully more fruit in evidence here. Gently grippy, a slight pepperiness comes through on the finish. Give this a couple of years in bottle.

Medium to deep garnet-purple in color, the 2023 Les Hauts de Lynch-Moussas rocks up with ready-to-go notes of kirsch, blackberry pie, and strawberry preserves plus hints of wild thyme and pencil lead. The medium-bodied palate is crisp and lively, with lightly chewy tannins and a lifted herb-laced finish. The blend is 58% Cabernet Sauvignon and 42% Merlot.
