The 2022 Verso de Haut-Batailley has a very odd nose, with myself and several others noting a semblance to Zinfandel, which I suspect was not the original intention. I personally would not go that far, though I see where they are coming from. The palate is medium-bodied, sweet 'n sour, with a touch of black tea on the finish. Tasted blind at the Southwold tasting in London.

Very floral, the 2022 Château Haut-Batailley Verso has beautiful black raspberry and cassis-like notes as well as hints of spicy wood and violet, medium to full body, a rounded, layered mouthfeel, and a great finish.

The 2022 Verso de Haut-Batailley still has a very extravagant nose with too much VA for my liking. The palate is sweet on the entry with a touch of plush black fruit. It's soft textured, with a hint of kirsch and a dab of balsamic on the finish. Drink this over the next three to four years.

An expression of sweet berries, plums and currants on the nose as well as a touch of baked fruit. A slightly sweet-sour accent has a direct impact, giving this early appeal but less finesse or complexity. Fluid, juicy and firm at the end. Medium-long finish. 54% merlot, 43% cabernet sauvignon and 3% petit verdot. Drink in 2026.
