Gloria (BIO-ORGANIC) - Saint-Julien 2024

Gloria, a masterpiece shaped by a genuine family

The wine world often mentions the importance of family, but few live it as fully as the Triaud family. The adventure began with Henri Martin, grandson of the Gruaud-Larose cellar master, who bought plots of Saint-Julien Crus Classés just after the Second World War to create Château Gloria. This estate was his life's work and it would take thirty years to establish as one of the most famous Non Classified Growths. In the 1970s, he was joined by his son-in-law, Jean-Louis Triaud, a man of great charisma and humour, and together they worked on the development of this wine heritage. Gloria, a seductive, sensual and surprising wine, is one of the best values in Bordeaux, along with Saint-Pierre.

Today, Jean Triaud, his wife Caroline and his brother-in-law Orphée Amougou represent the third generation at the helm of the estate, and they are already preparing for the fourth. In 2021, they have undertaken to convert the vineyard to organic farming, thus demonstrating their commitment to preserving and passing on the family heritage.

Vintage 2024:

The 2024 vintage of Château Gloria is characterized by a very rainy and mild winter, allowing for groundwater replenishment, followed by a disrupted spring with humid conditions that increased pathological risks, requiring rigorous organic management. The summer, dry and hot from late June onwards, caused moderate water stress depending on the terroirs, with a long but successful veraison, indicating a late harvest. The harvest, starting on September 25th for Merlot and October 2nd for Cabernet, benefited from a sunny autumn interspersed with a few rainy days. Reasoned vinification helped preserve the aromatic balance, resulting in a fine, supple, and harmonious wine with a good balance between alcohol, acidity, and polyphenols.

Tasting Notes:

On the nose, aromas of fresh red fruits, fragrant, subtle, with spicy notes.
On the palate, the structure is delicate, smooth, and flavorful. A beautiful aromatic length with a touch of noble and refined tannins.

"The 2024 vintage is synonymous with freshness, fruit without excessive alcohol, and a good balance, in short, an instantly enjoyable wine."

Highly perfumed aromatics. Full and filling for the vintage, massy tannins have a lovely texture - chewy but fine and cool too, giving a gentle bounce to this expression with crystalline fruit and lovely mineral edges. This has a glossy feel, ripe and concentrated fruit with a perfectly sculpted frame. Feels very classy and full of sweet and lifted acidity. Great stuff here. Love this. 5% Petit Verdot completes the blend. Tasted twice.

Deep garnet-purple colored. Rolls out with notes of red plums and black raspberries, plus touches of wild thyme and pencil shavings. Light to medium-bodied, the palate is chewy and refreshing with delicate flavors and a peppery finish.

Based on 65% Cabernet Sauvignon, 25% Merlot, with the rest Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot, the 2024 Château Gloria reveals rock-solid cassis, graphite, smoky tobacco, and nicely integrated oak notes. Medium-bodied and beautifully balanced, with a slightly modern style, it has pure fruit, fine tannins, and a great finish.

A solid, textural and well-structured red with dark plums and warm spices on the nose. It’s medium-bodied with fine, firm tannins. Juicy with some chocolate influence. Medium finish.

The 2024 Gloria has a light nose with blackberry, leather and loamy aromas that require a bit of coaxing from the glass. The palate is medium-bodied with rigid tannins, moderate depth, gentle grip and a slightly blocky finish. It's not close to the peaks that Gloria can achieve (and there have been several in recent years), but this is a swarthy Saint-Julien that should mellow with bottle age.

The 2024 Gloria is soft, fruity and very easy to like. Sweet red cherry/plum fruit, rose petal, lavender and mocha are nicely pushed forward. Gloria is very nicely balanced. It's a real charmer in 2024.

Flowers, currants, cherries, and tobacco resonate in the nose, and on the medium-bodied, soft, fruity, red-berry packed palate. The wine is fresh, forward, and fruity, so you can enjoy it on, or just shortly after release. Drink from 2027-2038.

The 2024 vintage marks Château Gloria’s first year of Organic Certification and its fourth year transitioning to biodynamics. While not the sole reason, I must admit that both the enhanced fruit fragrance and the more vibrant palate have elevated the wine to a new level. The aroma is not intensely bold, but its lines are remarkably clear. Hints of wild rose, raspberry, and fruit preserves add a touch of youthful freshness, ensuring it remains lively and vibrant.

Aromas of blackberries, cassis and toasty oak introduce the 2024 Gloria, a medium-bodied, lively wine built around youthfully chalky tannins.

Dark ruby, opaque core, purple reflections, subtle brightening on the rim. Delicate notes of ripe plums and some nougat with undertones of candied orange zest. Slender, red cherries, soft notes of redcurrants, fresh structure, offers uncomplicated drinking pleasure.
