Four centuries of Medoc history along with the uncompromising quality goals shared with the Japanese owners - Suntury Group - since 1983 have inspired Château Lagrange, 3rd Grand Cru Classé in 1855.

Fiefs de Lagrange, elegance, depth and intensity

Created in 1983, “les Fiefs de Lagrange” is so much more than a second wine. Produced from young vines (with an average age of 30 years) and planted on fine gravel soils for the Cabernet Sauvignon and clay for certain Merlots.

In 2023, most of the rain was outside the vine growth period, replenishing the soil's water reserves. The season was early and warm, leading to perfect maturity of the grapes. The technical teams managed to deal with the difficulties of June to prepare for the summer season and the harvest. Harvesting went serenely, with a generous harvest and grapes in perfect health.

Seductively fullbodied and charming, our second wine Les Fiefs de Lagrange is composed principally of Cabernet Sauvignon (46%), completed with Merlot at 41% and Petit Verdot, which at 13% has the particularity of representing a relatively high proportion of the blend in this vintage. Made from vines of an average age of 30 years, this wine is both powerful and creamy. A real treat for the tastebuds!

Checking in as a blend of 46% Cabernet Sauvignon, 41% Merlot, and 13% Petit Verdot, the 2023 Les Fiefs De Lagrange is the second wine of this notable Saint-Julien château and is a beautiful effort with considerable charm, accessibility, and elegance. Assorted darker red and black fruits, spicy wood, flowers, and graphite all shine on the nose, and it's medium-bodied, balanced, and already delicious on the palate. Drink bottles any time over the coming 10-12 years. Drink 2026-2037.

The 2023 Les Fiefs de Lagrange is a very beautiful, expressive second wine. Crushed flowers, bright red-toned fruit, cedar, pipe tobacco and mint lend notable energy and tension throughout. All the elements are so well balanced. This is pure and total sensuality.

The 2023 Les Fiefs de Lagrange seems rather reticent on the nose, well-defined, perhaps just a little herbaceous but in the positive sense, nothing green or underripe. The palate is medium-bodied with finely knit tannins. Edgy, tensile with just a touch of graphite toward the finish, this is a fine Les Fiefs to enjoy over the next decade.

Really pretty, showing fresh red berries and red cherries with a touch of citrus and elegant spices. A mineral edge too. Medium-bodied with fine tannins and a chalky, tense finish. A very good second wine. A blend of 46% cabernet sauvignon, 41% merlot and 13% petit verdot. Juicy and already delicious, but will hold too.

The 2023 Les Fiefs de Lagrange represents 52% of the estate’s production this year. Brambly black fruit, briar and light tobacco scents furnish the aromatics, perhaps not the most vigorous amongst the Saint-Julien wines, but suggestive of an approachable 2023. The palate is medium-bodied with slightly powdery tannins, mainly black fruit and a slight chalkiness toward the finish. It delivers a light peppery note on the aftertaste. Fine.

Some 52% of the estate's production was consecrated to the 2023 Les Fiefs de Lagrange, an attractive, medium to full-bodied wine redolent of cassis, licorice and plums. With good depth at the core and sweet, powdery tannins, it's a vibrant Saint-Julien that will age with grace. A further 6% of Lagrange's output was bulked out to maintain the quality of this cuvée, and that shows.
