I pulled the trigger on this Deuxième Vin, thinking it might be ready to drink. I was wrong. It has an intense blackberry and blueberry nose that, despite decanting, remains quite closed. The palate is surprisingly structured and has real density. There is plenty of potential, but I advise keeping this in the cellar for another two or three years.

The 2016 Les Fiefs de Lagrange offers blackberry, raspberry and light cedar scents on a nose that gradually unfurls in the glass. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannins, fine acidity, a velvety-smooth texture and some quality new oak evident on the finish, fortunately neatly integrated and simpatico with the fruit. Excellent. Tasted blind at the Southwold tasting.

The 2016 Les Fiefs de Lagrange is the second wine of Château Lagrange. This charming, high-quality Saint-Julien has more herbal, earthy notes than the Grand Vin and offers lots of blackcurrants and black cherry fruits, plenty of tobacco and damp forest floor notes, medium body, sweet tannins, and loads of charm. It's nicely balanced and well worth drinking. It should keep for over a decade.

The 2016 Les Fiefs de Lagrange is an absolute joy. Plaint and forward, with striking fruit density, the 2016 delivers the goods. Sweet red cherry, blood orange, mint and sweet tobacco add layers of nuance, but it is the wine's depth and purity of fruit that sta out. What a delicious wine this is.

The 2016 Les Fiefs de Lagrange has a medium to deep garnet-purple color and a nose of warm red and black currants, earth and minerals with a waft of roses. The palate is medium-bodied and plush with plenty of juicy fruit and an earthy finish.

The 2016 Les Fiefs de Lagrange, which actually comes from 35-year-old vines nowadays, is a blend of 55% Cabernet Sauvignon, 41% Merlot and 4% Petit Verdot and matured in 20% new oak. It has a very intense bouquet, especially for a Deuxième Vin, with pure black cherry, crème de cassis and crushed violets. The palate is medium-bodied with crisp acidity, quite tensile in the mouth and full of joie de vivre. You cannot really go wrong with Les Fiefs, and I bet it will be a great value once released.

The 2016 Les Fiefs de Lagrange is a delicious second wine from Lagrange. Plump, forward and juicy, the Fiefs is everything a second wine should be. Aromatically expressive and pliant, with midweight structure and impeccable balance, the 2016 is a winner.

I like Fiefs a lot in 2016 for the simple reason that it is balanced and also that the oak is under control. This is a solid little wine with a good core and a nice battery pack. 16

Not that concentrated crimson. Light and dry. Respectable and quite dry. Far from heavy. Quite demandingly dry.
