Tasted blind at Farr Vintners 2004 horizontal tasting. The Château L'Evangile appears to come on leaps and bounds since I last tasted it. Here, it serves up an attractive Merlot-driven bouquet with succulent red cherries, raspberry and wild strawberry fruit that are well defined and vibrant - a more "light-hearted" L'Evangile. The palate is medium-bodied with fine acidity, a rounded and cashmere texture with a caressing finish that is just very...for want of a better word...Pomerol! Tasted March 2014.

A stunning example of the vintage, the 2004 l’Evangile is not far off the pace of their brilliant 2005. A blend of 89% Merlot and 11% Cabernet Franc (3,000+ cases produced), it exhibits a deep ruby/plum color, superb ripeness, and sweet blackberry, truffle, acacia flower, licorice, and toasty oak aromas. This knock-out effort is surprisingly rich, opulent, and fruity with good glycerin, medium to full body, and a stunning finish. It should drink beautifully young yet age for 15 or more years.

The milk chocolate, berry and cedar character on the nose is subtle and refined. Full-bodied, with silky tannins and a refined finish. All in finesse and elegance. Best after 2011. 3,330 cases made.

Far superior to the 2003, the 2004 exhibits a deep ruby/purple color as well as aromas and flavors of black raspberries, truffles, and incense. Medium-bodied with fine density and ripeness, this elegant, long Pomerol should drink well in 3-4 years, and last for 15 or more.

A blend of 89% Merlot and 11% Cabernet Franc, this deep ruby/purple-colored 2004 boasts a sexy, up-front bouquet of raspberries, black currants, and sweet smoky notes. Lush, seductive, and ripe, although not terribly deep, it offers delicious fruit in its forward, elegant, finesse-styled personality. Think of it as a lighter version of the brilliant 2000. Anticipated maturity: 2007-2017.

Grande réussite : nous retrouvons pleinement l'esprit du cru avec son parfum très noble de violette et son tannin ultra raffiné grâce à une vinification beaucoup plus précise que dans les années précédentes. De loin le Pomerol le plus formellement réussi de la dégustation de l'Union des grands crus. Grand avenir.

90% merlot, 10% cabernet franc 100% de fût neuf, vinifié dans le tout nouveau chai. Doté d'une robe sombre, le vin possède un nez assez intense, très fin, sur le café et le cassis. Dense, élégante, la bouche renferme beaucoup de finesse et se révèle équilibrée , tout en longueur, avec un léger creux. Le vin ne fait pas dans la puissance, mais joue l'élégance, avec une fin de bouche très typée de grande classe.
