Echo de Lynch Bages - Pauillac 2023

Lynch Bages, the signature of the Cazes family

Marrying the worlds of wine and culture, the Cazes family has positioned Lynch-Bages at the core of a lifestyle. In 2006, Jean-Michel Cazes handed the management over to his son Jean-Charles, who is driven by the same high standards, and the Lynch-Bages wines have continued to reflect their generosity and excellence.

Echo de Lynch-Bages

Château Haut-Bages Averous was the name of the former Pauillac estate acquired by André Cazes and was the domaine's second wine from 1976 onwards. It was renamed Echo de Lynch-Bages as of the 2008 vintage in order to affirm its relationship with the Grand Cru Classé.

Its name Echo refers to the nymph from Greek mythology: according to Greek mythology, Zeus - a sometimes fickle husband - entrusted the nymph Echo with distracting his wife Hera by engaging her in endless chatter when he wished to tarry with some beautiful mortal. Hera, on discovering this little game, pronounced sentence on the nymph with the following words: "You will never be the first to speak, but you will always have the last word".

The 2023 vintage

The 2023 vintage presents a clear and fruit-forward palette of aromas. The wines are well-balanced, with smooth tannins and good acidity. This new vintage stands out for its opulence, elegance, and purity.

Tasting notes

''Echo de Lynch-Bages has a brilliant ruby colour. On the nose, bright notes of red fruit offer a lovely freshness. On the palate, it stands out for its roundness and harmonious oak integration. An opulent wine, in the tradition of its “big brother”."

The 2023 Echo de Lynch-Bages was bottled in May 2025. It has a generous bouquet with black cherries and blueberry fruit, quite forward in style. The palate is medium-bodied with a sweeter entry than expected, a keen line of acidity, pure and quite luscious in style, but it maintains precision on the finish. Just needs a few months in bottle and this will be ready to go.

Juicy and fine-grained, with racy, ripe strawberries, lightly baked currants and a touch of asphalt and roasted spices. Tight and nicely chewy, with medium body and lots of almost dusty tannins. Firm, fruit-forward finish. A blend of 55% merlot, 43% cabernet sauvignon and 2% cabernet franc. Drink from 2026.

Graphite, tobacco, spicy herbs, and both red and black fruits all emerge from the 2023 Echo De Lynch-Bages, a medium to full-bodied second wine that has plenty of tannins, good balance, and outstanding length. The tannins aren't as polished as the Grand Vin, but this has real character.

Echo de Lynch Bages (Pauillac; 55% Merlot; 43% Cabernet Sauvignon; 2% Cabernet Franc; pH 3.62; IPT 78; 13.6% alcohol; tasted at Lynch Bages). Gracious, eloquent, pure and refined. Brambles, freshly plucked, de-husked and concentrated. Cedar and black cherry. This is plump and nicely composed, with the sense of density reinforced by the relatively narrow frame. A sumptuous evolution. Juicy on the finish.

Flowers, currants, and cedar pop in the nose. Medium-bodied, soft, zesty, round, fresh, and vibrant, the savory-edged finish is loaded with ripe, sweet, red fruits, with a touch of herbs, dark chocolate, and spice. Drink from 2027-2040. 89-91 Pts.

Rich and deep, cocoa bean, slate and espresso, so intense that you have to look twice to see that it is a 2nd wine. Tannins layer up through the palate, not drying but certainly chewy and firm, with lashings of blackberry and cassis fruit, held in place by espresso-laced tannins. Mix of new and one year old barrels for ageing, 3.63ph. Out to impress.

The 2023 Echo de Lynch-Bages is a potent second wine. It’s really the Cabernets that drive the wine's flavor profile and overall feel. The Echo is not as juicy or succulent as it can be, rather it is a wine that will need a year or two post-release to show at its best.

The 2023 Echo de Lynch-Bages has a high-toned bouquet of cassis and floral notes that will appeal to those seeking a more hedonistic Pauillac in this vintage. The palate is medium-bodied and fleshy with succulent tannins and a cashmere-like mouthfeel. The finish is ripe and quite long. Drink it over the next six to eight years.

Aromas of cassis, dark berries and creamy new oak introduce the 2023 Echo de Lynch-Bages, a medium to full-bodied, fleshy and layered wine with a succulent core of fruit framed by youthfully chewy tannins.

A balance of blackberry, chocolate and stone with a medium body, creamy texture and a soft finish. The length and depth are very pretty, while the juicy, velvety tannins are so attractive.
