During the harvest season, I personally visited the vineyards of Château Duhart-Milon and found the grapes to be even more exceptional than those at Lafite. Thanks to the rich clay layer beneath the soil, each grape was plump and firm, showing no signs of desiccation. Tasting the wine, I was immediately captivated by its silken, tofu-like texture, defying expectations with its sublime smoothness. On the delicate, rice-paper-like body, you can see the telltale stains left by splashes of blackberry and cherry; drawing closer, the scent of green ink and violet unfurls, a breathtaking beauty that sways the soul.

The 2022 Duhart-Milon is showing beautifully, bursting from the glass with aromas of mulberries, blackcurrants, pencil shavings and rose petal. Medium to full-bodied, velvety and textural, it's sweet and layered, with a gourmand core of fruit underpinned by powdery tannins and lively acids. A decade ago, Duhart could be a somewhat austere wine, but today it's much more integrated and harmonious. The 2022 is a blend of 78% Cabernet Sauvignon and 22% Merlot.

Dark rich ruby colour, elegant and slow moving, will take its time to reach peak drinking, and lots to love. Silky, rich, a vintage that brings out a rakish side of Duhart, unusually ripe that touches exuberance without ever giving up its Pauillac character. Lots of replanting here, so lots of young vines that go into Moulin de Duhart. 50% new oak for ageing, 3.82 ph.

Ils se révèlent à partir du milieu de bouche, de manière précise et avec une redoutable efficacité tout en prenant soin de conférer de la fraîcheur. The 2022 Duhart-Milon has a really wonderful bouquet driven by the higher proportion of Cabernet Sauvignon (78%), with pencil shaving aromas infusing the black fruit. This is quintessential Pauillac in style. The palate is medium-bodied, crisp and vibrant, with fine-boned tannins and an almost crunchy texture toward the saline finish. Beautifully balanced and poised, this sophisticated Duhart-Milon will age effortlessly over two or three decades.

The tension here comes from chalky tannins and lovely tobacco, herbs, cedar and cigar-box character. Currants and blue fruits. It's medium-bodied with lovely fruit and light-citrus bitterness. Firm and intense with an excellent finish. One of the best Duharts I have tasted. Try after 2028.

The 2022 Duhart-Milon is a big, rich wine. Ample and expansive on the palate, it has so much to offer. Cabernet Sauvignon takes center stage as dark-toned fruit, graphite and expressive savory nuances open with aeration. Huge swaths of creamy tannins wrap it all together, building to a substantial, explosive finish. The 2022 is an impressive Duhart.

Ripe fruit on the nose, cherries, blackcurrants and plums, fresh, open and inviting. Sleek and smooth, this is intense but juicy giving tannic strength, just shy of chewy but appealingly chalky and fleshy giving a mouthfilling texture while the stony, saline, spiced edge to the tannins and cool blueberry and mint give the freshness. The tannins stand out here, present and at the fore, but well textured, crushed velvet but juicy with high acidity and a sharpness that counters the clear power underneath. Ageing will incorporate 40% of new oak plus up to 15% of amphora based on current trials. Harvest 31 August to 28 September.

The 2022 Duhart-Milon underwent a short 15- to 18-day maceration and is raised in 50% new oak and the rest one-year-old barrels. It has a very graphite/mint-scented nose that is Pauillac through and through. The palate is fresh and vibrant with fine tannins. This is beautifully sculpted with a vibrant pencil lead-tinged finish reminiscent of Grand Puy Lacoste. The 2022 is a fabulous Duhart-Milon that should give 30 to 40 years of drinking pleasure. It's a Pauillac a bit like the late Steven Spurrier insofar that it's a Pauillac always conservatively dressed in a pin-striped suit, but that's the essence of Duhart.

It rocks up with ready-to-impress notes of warm cassis, blackberry preserves, and menthol, followed by hints of cinnamon stick, rose oil, and fallen leaves. The medium-bodied palate is chock full of lively black berry and minty flavors, framed by grainy tannins and plenty of freshness, finishing long and lifted.

Moulin de Duhart est précis et pertinent. Il affiche des nuances propres au Cabernet, respectivement de rafraîchissantes notes d'eucalyptus ainsi que des baies noires. Elégant, il est soutenu par des tannins veloutés tandis que l'acidité se charge de conférer de la structure. Un vin cristallin, à la lecture évidente, que l'on pourra déjà apprécier dans sa jeunesse.

The Grand Vin 2022 Château Duhart-Milon is 78% Cabernet Sauvignon and 22% Merlot. It brings more richness as well as classic Pauillac character in its lead pencil, graphite, tobacco, and red and black fruit-driven aromatics. With gorgeous richness, a medium to full bodied mouthfeel, and a great finish, this utterly classic, seamless, balanced Pauillac should be snatched up by readers. It's going to give the 2009 a run for its money. 94-96+

The 2022 Duhart-Milon is racy and explosive right out of the gate. Ripe dark cherry, plum, cloves, licorice, menthol and mocha fill out the layers in a deep, wonderfully expressive Duhart. Firm tannins extend the finish nicely. I imagine the 2022 will require at least a few years in bottle to be at its best, but it is pretty showy today. The blend is 78% Cabernet Sauvignon and 22% Merlot. Drinking window : 2027-2042

Lead pencil, spice, red currants, flowers, and dark cherries crowd into the nose. On the palate, the wine is elegant, refined, soft, and pure. There is density along with vibrance, spice, lift, and width. The finish, with its blend of red fruits, cocoa, orange rind, spice, espresso, and plums lingers, which is a good things as you as much of this on your palate as possible. The wine is a blend of 78% Cabernet Sauvignon and 22% Merlot. 13.5% ABV, 3.9 pH. Drink from 2026-2050.
