Croizet Bages - Pauillac 2020

Château Croizet-Bages, a classified growth in the 1855 classification, owes its name to the Croizet brothers, emblematic dynasty of the Médoc, who created the estate in the 17th century in the heart of the famous hamlet of Bages in Pauillac. Château Croizet-Bages received special recognition at the 1878 and 1889 universal exhibitions, as symbolised by the gold medals on the label.

Wine merchant in Paris, Monsieur Paul Quié, already owner of another estate in Haut-Médoc and passionate about wine, clearly saw the potential of this classified growth when he acquired it in 1942. He renovated the vineyard with enthusiasm and patience.

His son Jean-Michel, and his children, still combine today experience and modern winemaking. Château Croizet-Bages is a generous, opulent, expressive wine with a very powerful bouquet reminiscent of black fruit, spice, and cedar, accompanied on the palate by a fine tannic texture.

Key Points
- Family owned and managed
- Good quality wine and well rated
- A new phase of renovation has started across the entire estate, it should be completed in 2024
- Same family owner of Bel Orme Tronquoy de Lalande and Rauzan-Gassies

A little bit of an under-the-radar Pauillac, the 2020 Château Croizet-Bages exbibits attractive aromatics of sweet currants, cherries, new saddle leather, and cedar pencil. These carry to a medium-bodied, nicely balanced, elegant 2020 with ripe, polished tannins, terrific balance, and outstanding length. A beautiful wine, it already has some up-front appeal yet should benefit from 3-5 years of bottle age and have a good two decades of overall longevity.

Wow, they have really upped their game at Croizet Bages. This is a beauty packed with layers of supple-textured, ripe, dark red fruits, freshness, silky tannins and a chewy, red berry finish that shows off its purity, leafy herbs, cedar, tobacco and spicy edges quite nicely. Drink from 2025-2045.

Deep and intriguing showing notes of red prunes, black prunes, wet asphalt, cloves, incense, black pepper and flowering chamomile. Medium bodied, light tannins and a tasty finish with optimum grace. Drink now.

The 2020 Croizet-Bages is a very pretty, aromatic Pauillac. Crushed flowers, sweet red berry fruit, dried herbs, incense and rose petal are all beautifully lifted. Nervy tannins need time to soften, but all elements are nicely balanced. I especially admire the energy and understated persistence here.

Blackcurrants, blackberries, and wet earth. Some walnut. Medium to full body. Chewy. Flavorful. Fine-textured tannins. Best after 2025.

Classically built with a dense core of red berries, cassis, leather and subtle oak, good tannic grip, generous fruit and a long finish, well done in a classic age worthy style.

The 2020 Croizet-Bages is laced with red fruit, dried herbs, crushed rocks, graphite and strong mineral notes that lend freshness while giving the wine terrific freshness as well as energy. the 2020 is not as opulent as many wines in this vintage, but it more than makes up for that with its persistence and length.

Lots of attractive black cherry and currant fruits as well as tobacco, cedarwood, and subtle spicy, earthy nuances emerge from the 2020 Château Croizet-Bages, a medium-bodied, nicely concentrated, textured, and balanced Pauillac that should have two decades of longevity.

Plenty of floral notes on the aromatics, this is tasty, a little austere, with tight tannins but underpinned by silky texture and attractive blueberry and blackberry fruits, and a juicy edge. A yield of 41 hl/ha, 50% new oak. Eric Boissenot consultant. Jean-Philippe Quié is technical director, harvest September 11-29.

Tobacco, cedar, flowers, mint and creme de cassis come to the forefront with little effort. Medium/full-bodied, with a generous dose of chewy currants, herbs and cigar wrapper, there is serious Pauillac character here. This is the best vintage of Croizet-Bages I recall tasting. Priced correctly, this is worth taking a look at. 90-92

Deep purple-black colored, the 2020 Croizet-Bages opens with notes of prunes, fruitcake and espresso, leading to notes of black olives, fried herbs and tobacco leaf. The medium-bodied palate is chewy and a little dilute in the middle, finishing firmly and abruptly.

Dark purple colour with violet hue and almost blackcore. Elegant nose with distinct ripe fruit, dark berries and juicy plums, hints of gingerbread spices, vanilla and subtle oak in the blackground.
On the palate well structured with great precision, ripe tannins, multi-layered fruit, fine toasting flavour and mild spices.
An excellent Croizet - Bages with dept hand convincing length.

Dunkles Rubingranat, opaker Kern, violette Reflexe, breitere Randaufhellung.

Very chewy and tannic, yet the tannins are refined and polished. Blackberry and blueberry character with a walnut undertone. Full and flavorful.
