Croix de Labrie - Saint-Emilion Grand Cru 2019

VERY LIMITED QUANTITIES !

Château Croix de Labrie is located in Saint-Emilion Grand Cru which inevitably think of Burgundy and its mosaic of plots and producers. Indeed, our vineyards cover around 10 acres in the heart of the appellation.

We pay particular attention to the vine in order to express the maximum of the terroir. The vineyard is handled by Axelle Courdurié, as a small diamond, from pruning to the harvest, the vinification and ageing with the guidance of the team of Michel Rolland and Hubert de Bouard. Very mindful of detail, accuracy Axelle brings her feminine sensitivity to all our wines from Croix de Labrie.

The plots are located on Badon (near Pavie), St. Sulpice (beside the first parcel of Valandraud) and Saint Christophe des Bardes, on the famous plateau with arteries limestones, beside our cellar (dating from 1687). The terroir of Badon is composed of sand and clay with a basement limestone. Soil drainage, brings us finesse. The St. Sulpice compound is serious with clays which cause more depth and density. And finally, the plateau, Saint Christophe des Bardes on clay-arteries limestone soil bringing complexity and density. The vines are more than 90 % Merlot, we have a few rows of Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc.

Château Croix de Labrie (90 % Merlot 7% Cabernet Sauvignon 3% Cabernet Franc) produces about 850 to 1000 cs.

Château Croix de Labrie is part of the Grand Vin de Bordeaux and is now considered as one of the rarest and one of the great wines of Bordeaux and Saint-Emilion with Ausone, Angelus, Cheval Blanc, Canon, La Mondotte, Pavie, Valandraud.

Rare and unique wines of Château Croix de Labrie are rich, dense, very fruity, with perfect ripeness. A very elegant very deep color, with lots of finesse. An ability to age for more than 15 years, but in his youth Croix de Labrie brings a lot of power, balance and freshness.

The vintage of 2019 is a perfect textbook of Garage Wine. Both the toasted aromas and spicy notes are very impressive on the nose. Those black pepper, licorice, and cumin aromas will make you feel that you are tasting a left bank’s Cabernet rather than a Merlot from the right bank. The highly concentrated palate is fulfilled with streamlined acidity, rich and refined tannins, and a sense of limestone mineral note on the after taste. Compared with the previous vintages, this wine explains better the concept of Terroir. 2019???????????????????????????,???????????????????????????????????????????????????,???????,?????????????????????????????,???????????????

Fabulous aromas of blackberries, blueberries, pine needles and spices, such as nutmeg and allspice. White pepper, too. Full-bodied and very tight with a solid core of fruit and ultra-fine yet powerful tannins. It’s got so much energy and drive. Vibrant at every level. Precise and not overpowering, yet so structured. 97% merlot and 3% cabernet sauvignon. Made from biodynamically grown grapes. This needs time to soften. Try after 2026.

The 2019 Château Croix De Labrie is gorgeous and jumps out in the vintage. Almost all Merlot brought up in new barrels, it offers a beautiful bouquet of red and black currants, spicy oak, dried herbs, and flowers, with a beautiful loamy earth and chalky minerality emerging with time in the glass. With remarkable purity and finesse, it's full-bodied, has a great mid-palate, silky tannins, and a great finish. It could be drunk today with a decant but will ideally be given 4-5 years of bottle age. I suspect it will have 20-25 years of overall longevity.

The 2019 Croix de Labrie is not quite as seductive as it was from barrel, but that won't be an issue with a more time in bottle. Bright red cherry, blood orange, cinnamon and mocha are nicely layered. The 2019 is coming along nicely. Tasted two times.

The 2019 Croix de Labrie has an upfront, well-defined bouquet of black cherries, blueberry and violet aromas, the oak nicely integrated. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannins, fine acidity, good focus and satisfying freshness, delivering a judicious touch of white pepper on the finish. Very fine.

Composed of 97% Merlot and 3% Cabernet Sauvignon with a potential of 14.5% alcohol and aging in 100% new French oak barrels, the 2019 Croix de Labrie has a very deep purple-black color. The nose opens with some very classy cedary notes, giving way to a profound core of baked plums, blackberry preserves and blueberry pie with touches of licorice, chargrilled meats, mocha and eucalyptus with a waft of red roses. Full-bodied, rich and concentrated, the palate has wonderful vibrancy for its weight, with a solid backbone of plush, ripe tannins and seamless freshness, finishing long and fragrant. This chateau has been on a roll recently—I am more and more impressed every year.

The 2019 Croix de Labrie is rich, creamy and expansive on the palate. Raspberry jam, mocha, spice, licorice and pomegranate build effortlessly. A hint of reduction lingers, but hopefully élevage will take care of that.

This rising superstar estate in Saint-Emilion has produced another brilliant wine in 2019. Based largely on Merlot brought up in new French oak, it reveals a dense purple hue as well as a powerful bouquet of black raspberry and cassis interwoven with plenty of graphite, candied violets, cedary spice, and chocolatey oak. This powerful, full-bodied Saint-Emilion stays beautifully balanced and has building tannins, a vibrant spine of acidity, and classic minerality on the finish. It's already hard to resist given the purity of fruit and silky tannins, but it's going to benefit from 4-6 years of bottle age and keep for 20 years or more.

The 2019 Croix de Labrie offers upfront black cherries, blackcurrant and cedar aromas on the nose, quite intense but well defined. The oak here is neatly assimilated. The palate is vibrant on the entry with layers of creamy black and blue fruit, silky smooth in texture with a modicum of restraint on the finish. It's one of the best wines that I have tasted from this Saint-Émilion Grand Cru in recent years.

Inky dark purple in color, you know this is intense from the moment the wine hits your glass. Chocolate, vanilla, blackberry, blueberry, smoke, flowers, licorice, and raspberry notes take no effort to find. There is good lift, loads of crushed rocks, opulent, velvety textures, and layer after layer of chocolate-covered black cherries. This could be the best wine yet from Croix de Labrie! The wine is a blend of 97% Merlot and 3% Cabernet Sauvignon, 14.5% alcohol. 95-97 Pts

This is really special and intense, showing incredible energy and brightness with perfumes that just jump out. Full body and incredible length. Changes all the time. So complex. Notes of iron, too. Love this. 97% merlot with cabernet sauvignon.
