Medium to deep garnet-purple colored, the 2017 Couvent des Jacobins displays notes of baked blackberries, warm plums and Black Forest cake with hints of garrigue, sautéed herbs and smoked meats. Medium-bodied, the palate has a solid structure of firm, chewy tannins and bold freshness supporting the muscular black fruits, finishing a little hard. Drinking Window : 2020 - 2032

The 2017 Couvent des Jacobins is fabulous. Rich and inky, the 2017 possesses tremendous depth and tons of allure. Blackberry jam, mocha, espresso, licorice, chocolate and spice all build in a heady Saint-Émilion that hits all the right notes. The 2017 is not especially subtle, but it packs a serious punch and will drink well right out of the gate. Readers should expect an especially sumptuous style.

Some attractive, rich and pulpy red cherries and mulberries on the nose here. The palate has a succulent and sleek, glossy-tannin quality. Excellent depth and composure here, too. Drink or hold.

Plum, blueberries, graphite, and ground herb notes as well as some obvious minerality emerge from the 2017 Couvent Des Jacobins. A blend of 83% Merlot, 10% Cabernet Franc and the rest Petit Verdot, this beauty has some solid heft, medium body, and present tannin. It has outstanding potential yet is going to need 2-3 years of bottle age. 88-90+

Juicy and fresh with dark red fruits, flowers in its spicy personality, the tannins are soft, the character is forward and the finish is on the bright red berry side. The wine is made from blending 80% Merlot, 12% Cabernet Franc and 8% Petit Verdot.

The 2017 Couvent des Jacobins is a little muted on the nose and demands some coaxing, although it never quite kicks into fifth gear. The palate is medium-bodied with light tannin, quite linear in the mouth, nicely balanced with blackcurrant pastille and a touch of cassis towards the finish. Fine.

A tough vintage here. This estate suffered from the frost, resulting in a total yield of 29hl/ha from the parts of the vineyard that didn't freeze - but that was just 3ha out of the estate's 10.7ha. It means a higher proportion of Petit Verdot than usual has been used, as those plots (first harvested in 2014) were not frosted. The wine is intense and the colour promising, but those fruit flavours are not ripe enough to carry the firm, tannic structure, leaving it a little stranded and exposed. In organic conversion, expected for 2020.

Loaded with spicy oak, this wine has tight tannins that are covering the fruit. It is likely to be a crisp wine, retaining its flavors of bitter coffee for several years. Drink from 2023.

This is a very impressive 2017 with no shortage of fruit in the form of blackberries and creme de cassis. Medium body, lots of driven acidity, grainy tannins and a medium chewy finish. Well done here.
