The 2020 Clos Vieux Taillefer is deep, pliant and expressive, while retaining the sense of lightness that is common here. Blueberry, lavender, spice, menthol and licorice are all woven together in a plump, juicy Pomerol that hits all the right notes. Soft, silky and charming, Clos Vieux Taillefer has a ton to offer. The 2020 is shaping up to be stellar. Rose petals and crushed red berry liven up the finish. Tasted two times.

My money is on the 2020 Clos Vieux Taillefer being outstanding. It offers classic Merlot red and blue fruits intermixed with lots of floral and chocolate nuances as well as hints of more exotic violet and orange rind. Medium to full-bodied and nicely balanced, with a solid spine of acidity, give bottles 2-4 years in the cellar and enjoy over the following 10-15.

The 2020 Clos Vieux Taillefer is well defined and focused on the nose of perfumed blackberry, raspberry and iodine aromas, developing more intensity with aeration. The medium-bodied palate delivers sappy black fruit and fine acidity. A little chewy toward the finish, but it shows better than recent vintages.

Deep garnet-purple colored, the 2020 Clos Vieux Taillefer waltzes out of the glass with compelling scents of stewed black cherries, crushed blueberries and boysenberries, plus suggestions of iron ore, fertile loam and candied violets. The medium-bodied palate is beautifully soft and juicy fruited, delivering great tension and purity, finishing on a peppery note.
