Clos des Jacobins - Saint-Emilion Grand Cru 2019

Clos des Jacobins, a historic Grand Cru Classé in Saint-Emilion

Clos des Jacobins is located at the entrance to the medieval village in the heart of Saint-Emilion’s great terroirs. It takes its name from the Dominican monks known as “Jacobins” who lived on the outskirts of the Saint-Emilion village and used the farm buildings to accommodate pilgrims on their way to or from Santiago de Compostela. They farmed the vineyard to produce their wine, which provided them with most of their income.

Since the 17th century, the homogeneous vineyard has extended over 8,3 hectares in a single block surrounding the cellars. These vines are situated at the foot of the Saint-Emilion slope, where its clay soils are enhanced by the limestone scree that has eroded from the plateau above. This special location and its south-facing orientation provide a unique, early-ripening and generous terroir. Clos des Jacobins has been a Classified Growth since official classification began in Saint-Emilion in 1954.

Features a mix of mulled black currant and warmed fig notes that are coated liberally with espresso crema and roasted alder, while a humus echo lingers on the finish. This has muscle but is a touch shy on energy. Merlot, Cabernet Franc and Cabernet Sauvignon. Drink now through 2032. 2,570 cases made, 50 cases imported.

While the proportion of new oak of Clos des Jacobins 2019 is as high as 75%, it always maintains a smooth taste. The sweet blueberries and blackberry berries are intertwined with rich layers of cloves and cinnamon, and they are very picturesque against the chalky mineral notes. It would be better if the structure could be softer at length. ??Clos des Jacobins 2019????????75%,????????????????????????????????????????,??????????????,???????????????????????????

Aromas of cherries, blueberries, lavender, sandalwood and walnuts. It’s medium-to full-bodied with firm, polished and silky tannins. So supple and polished. Seamless. Try in 2025.

The 2019 Clos Des Jacobins showed well, with quality cassis, spicy oak, leather, and floral aromatics. These all carry over to a medium-bodied, nicely focused, balanced wine that stays tight and compact on the palate yet has good density, building tannins, and a great finish. It needs 3-4 years of bottle age and will evolve for at least 10-12 years.

Seamless and charming, the 2019 Clos des Jacobins bursts with aromas of cherries, sweet berries, loamy soil and spice box. Medium to full-bodied, ample and enveloping, with ripe tannins and succulent acids, it will drink well on release.

Just as it was from barrel, the 2019 Clos des Jacobins is racy and forward. Jammy red cherry fruit, leather, spice, menthol and licorice are all amplified. This succulent Saint-Émilion will provide plenty of pleasure over the next decade, give or take. The only thing this needs to get to the next level is a more harmonious integration of oak.

Opaque purple-black in color, the 2019 Clos des Jacobins slowly emerges to reveal notions of freshly crushed blackberries, Morello cherries and wild blueberries with suggestions of cedar chest, hoisin, chargrill and tapenade plus a waft of eucalyptus. Medium to full-bodied, the palate is jam-packed with juicy black and blue fruits, framed by chewy tannins and just enough freshness, finishing with a lovely herbal lift.

The 2019 Clos des Jacobins is a sumptuous, racy wine. Inky dark fruit and silky contours give the 2019 much of its immediacy and allure. This is an especially overt style. New leather, chocolate, spice and menthol build into the creamy, inviting finish.

Offering lots of spice, cedar, and red and black fruits, the 2019 Clos Des Jacobins is medium-bodied, has plenty of mid-palate depth, ripe, chewy tannins, and a good finish. It's a solid, well-made Saint-Emilion that will keep for over a decade.

The 2019 Clos des Jacobins has a very ripe bouquet with raisin and dates infusing the black fruit, opulent and just maybe showing a little sur-maturité. The palate is better with saturated tannins that lend this a silky smooth texture. The oak sticks out at the moment and will need time to be subsumed. There is just a little bit of alcohol evident on the finish. It might well pull together to become a fine Saint-Émilion, but I will be quite prudent for now.

Fruity, lush, round and rich, with loads of ripe dark berries, chocolate, espresso and licorice, the wine offers a lot of pleasure in every sniff and sip. 90-92 Pts

This is a tight, focused young Bordeaux with dark-chocolate, currant and walnut character. It's medium-to full-bodied with a lively finish. Some minerals and black tea, too. Very typical.

The investments into this estate are beginning to pay off. Precision and flesh is accompanied by slate notes that give a grip through the finish. The tannins build up relatively quickly. A good quality wine that will age.
