Tasted blind at the Southwold Bordeaux tasting. The 2012 Couvent des Jacobins has a light, fresh pencil-lead tinged bouquet that leans slightly to the Left Bank in style. The palate is medium-bodied with dusky black fruit, a little grainy in the mouth with pointed acidity, but the oak feels too strong, too dominant on the coca-lacquered finish. Maybe offer it another 2-3 years to see if it can "eat up" that wood? Tasted January 2016.

The 2012 Clos des Jacobins is an opulent, seamless Saint-Emilion made in a distinctly dark, ripe style that is probably best appreciated sooner rather than later. Plum, blackberry, menthol, licorice and spice notes are some of the signatures. The 2012 is not especially subtle, but there is no shortage of raciness.

This is very pretty and fruity for the vintage with plum and chocolate on the nose and palate. Full body, soft and silky tannins and a long and flavorful finish. Needs a year or two to soften.

Fruits confits, gelée de mûre, bouche boisée, lourde, épasisse, puissante, mais manque de fraîcheur à ce stade. O= 2017 G= 10 ans

The Clos des Jacobins has an attractive, clean fresh violet-scented nose that seems lively if not complex. The palate is medium-bodied with a slightly tough entry. The acidity is good but this sample seems to clam up on the finish. Hopefully it will open during maturation. Tasted April 2013.

Bravo.

Drink 2018-2025Lovely bramble and blueberry fruit. Fine, fresh, dry, elegant without the clobbering of oak though there is a touch of vanilla there too. Dense but rounded tannins. Firm, dry, oaky finish. Very good fruit waiting to emerge. (JH) (16,5+ points)

From the La Gomerie sector of St.-Emilion, it was cropped at 33 hectoliters per hectare and is composed of 75% Merlot, 22% Cabernet Franc and 3% Cabernet Sauvignon. While the wine exhibits an impressively dark color along with medium body, it is slightly angular and narrow in the mouth with a short finish. It should be consumed during its first decade of life. Since Hubert de Bouard was hired as the consultant at Clos des Jacobins the wines have been getting better although the 2012 is not one of their top successes.Drink: 2013 - 2023

Riche et onctueux, très coulis de mûre au nez et en bouche, suave et long. Intensité finement épicée en finale.

Aromas of blueberry and raspberries follow through to full body, with fine tannins and a long finish. Intense for the vintage. This is better than 2011 and very well done.

Le vin est dense, assez extrait, avec de la matière, dans un style moderne avec des tannins qui doivent encore se fondre.
