Dark ruby-red.  Aromas of blackcurrant, spices and mint.  Intense and savory, with brisk dark fruit, spice and chocolate flavors.  This flattering wine delivers plenty of fresh acidity on entry, then turns increasingly tannic on the back end.  Still, it's sweeter and rounder than most 2011s, and offers plenty of structure and verve.

The 2011 is a strong effort from Clos des Jacobins, which has been making much better wines lately. This spicy, earthy, richly fruity effort possesses decent acidity, sweet tannin and an attractively textured, medium-bodied mouthfeel. Consume it now and over the next decade.

This is exceptional for the vintage, with a fantastic depth of fruit, including blueberry and blackberry character. It’s full-bodied, with chewy tannins and a polished, caressing finish. This needs at least four or five years to soften and open, but it’s fantastic now.

A rock-solid wine, with a charcoal frame and a hefty core of crushed plum, warm fig and blackberry ganache notes, showing well-integrated singed wood accents through the finish. A solid effort. Best from 2015 through 2023.

(75% merlot, 23% cabernet franc and 2% cabernet sauvignon): Medium red-ruby. Perfumed aromas of dark berries, bitter chocolate, coffee and smoke. Juicy, leanish and pretty, with lovely inner-mouth aromatic perfume to the flavors of blackberry, iron and herbs. Fresh acidity gives the wine good grip. Finishes with hints of herbs and pepper and a smoky quality.

The proprietor of l’Angelus, Hubert de Bouard, consults at this estate, which used to be part of the Cordier empire. A blend of primarily Merlot, Cabernet Franc and a dollop of Cabernet Sauvignon, the deep ruby/blue/purple-colored 2011 offers hints of raspberries, blueberries and wild mountain berry fruit intermixed with earth and crushed chalk. Round, ripe and medium to full-bodied with good acidity and sweet tannin, it should provide plenty of pleasure over the next 12-15+ years.

Gras et charnu, mais un fruit moyennement expressif. Il y a cependant du volume.

Dark purple hue. Dense but reserved on the nose with dark fruit notes. Less opulence than recent vintages but good depth of fruit. Freshness and length on the finish. Good potential. Drink 2017-2026.

From a blend of 75% Merlot, 23% Cabernet Franc and the rest made up of Cabernet Sauvignon, the wine opens up with black licorice, dark cherry, oak, chocolate and wet earth scents. Medium bodied, round and fresh, at 13.5% alcohol, the wine ends with coffee, licorice and black cherry. 89-92 Pts

There is just a touch of over-ripeness on the nose here with a hint of volatility. The palate is sweet and chewy on the entry with grippy, rather dry tannins and good backbone on the finish. It lacks a little harmony but maybe it will come together by the time of bottling. Tasted April 2012

A friendly, open, toasty but creamy style, with fun blueberry and blackberry fruit and well-embedded anise on the finish. This doesn't try too hard to impress, coming off as very solid in the end.—J.M.

A wine with beautiful chocolate and berry fruit with hints of minerals. Full and juicy, with fresh acidity and a refined finish. Not a big wine but balanced. Gorgeous Well done.
