Clos des Jacobins (BIO-ORGANIC) - Saint-Emilion Grand Cru 2024

Clos des Jacobins, a historic Grand Cru Classé in Saint-Emilion

Clos des Jacobins is located at the entrance to the medieval village in the heart of Saint-Emilion’s great terroirs. It takes its name from the Dominican monks known as “Jacobins” who lived on the outskirts of the Saint-Emilion village and used the farm buildings to accommodate pilgrims on their way to or from Santiago de Compostela. They farmed the vineyard to produce their wine, which provided them with most of their income.

Since the 17th century, the homogeneous vineyard has extended over 8,3 hectares in a single block surrounding the cellars. These vines are situated at the foot of the Saint-Emilion slope, where its clay soils are enhanced by the limestone scree that has eroded from the plateau above. This special location and its south-facing orientation provide a unique, early-ripening and generous terroir. Clos des Jacobins has been a Classified Growth since official classification began in Saint-Emilion in 1954.

The Merlot-driven blend reveals a deep ruby in the glass, the nose shows spicy notes with a floral lift. The palate leans slightly dilute, yet carries attractive red and black fruits. Oak-driven tannins shape the texture, giving some grip and structure. Lingers well, showing potential for development.

Based on 80% Merlot, 18% Cabernet Franc, and the rest Cabernet Sauvignon, the 2024 Clos Des Jacobins has a charming, pleasure-bent style in its darker berries, leafy tobacco, and chocolatey, spicy wood-like nuances. It brings the rounder, forward, supple style on the palate, and it's going to drink nicely right out of the gate. It's impressive, and I love its level of ripeness and texture.

This has good depth of fruit for the vintage, showing spiced berries, minerals and a touch of paprika. Medium-bodied with fine-grained tannins and a juicy finish.

The 2024 Clos des Jacobins has a light bouquet with blackberry, redcurrant fruit and nicely integrated oak. The palate is well balanced with a keen bead of acidity. Whilst not a complex Saint-Émilion, there is a sense of poise and a bit more substance on the finish compared to its peers.

The 2024 Clos des Jacobins is a pleasant, fruity Saint-Émilion. Juicy dark cherry, plum, espresso, mocha, incense and dried herbs are nicely pushed forward. This mid-weight, open-knit Saint-Émilion offers tons of immediacy and pure pleasure to match. Tasted two times.

Medium-bodied, forward, fruity, and already fun, as well as easy to taste, you can open and enjoy this on the young side for all of its fruit, and minty-freshness. Drink from 2027-2038.

In a vintage where fruit expression is relatively subdued, Clos des Jacobins still makes a clear effort to bring out its aromatics. Raspberry and red plum may not be as sweet or exuberant as in previous years, but their bright, lifted profile remains appealing. The tannins are handled with ease, without relying on oak to build structure. Instead, a small amount of tannin moves gently across the palate, creating a relaxed and pleasing tasting experience.

Strong ruby, purple reflexes, broad rim brightening. Floral nuances, fresh heart cherry, a hint of orange zest, inviting bouquet. Juicy, elegant, mineral texture, fresh structure, delicately salty, remains persistent, a promising food companion.
