Clos de Bouard - Montagne Saint-Emilion 2019

After working along her father's sides for a decade, Coralie de Boüard took over the management of Château La Fleur de Boüard in 2012. 4 years later, this passionate and enthusiastic winemaker bought a 30-hectare vineyard in the appellation of Montagne Saint-Emilion. The vines are located on clay-limestone slopes, in front of "grands crus classés" from Saint-Emilion, such as Fleur Cardinale, Valandraud and Fombrauge. Thanks to a precise and virtuous approach, Coralie de Boüard is making a wine full of elegance and finesse.

Clos de Boüard 2019 is a representative wine of the Right Bank's Aesthetic. The sophisticated wine-making technique is embedded in the gentle extraction, clear aroma, and round body. The palate is rich but not affected. What’s more, it offers a mellow and lingering taste on the finish. ???????????????,?????????????????????????????????????,???????????

Aromas of plums, dark cherries, dried herbs, violets, cloves and peppercorns. It’s full-bodied with plush tannins. Rich and balanced with plenty of dark-fruit character and a flavorful finish. Drink from 2024.

I love the purity and freshness in the 2019 Château Clos De Boüard, which offers textbook Merlot notes of black cherries, black raspberries, cedarwood, and dried herbs. Medium to full-bodied on the palate, it shows the style of the vintage nicely, has a great mid-palate, ripe tannins, and outstanding length. It's well worth seeking out and will evolve for 10-15 years, if not longer.

The 2019 Clos de Boüard is a bold, virile wine. Black cherry, chocolate, spice, leather, licorice and tobacco are all kicked up. This is an especially dense, concentrated style. I would give the 2019 a year or two in bottle to see what happens.

The 2019 Clos de Boüard has a more tempered nose compared to the showing from barrel, delivering copious yet controlled black cherry and blueberry scents, and turning quite floral with aeration. The palate is medium-bodied with sappy black fruit, fine acidity, a smooth texture and a satisfying, quite persistent, graphite-tinged finish. This has matured well in barrel and after several years, it should be a fine Lalande de Pomerol.

Deep garnet-purple colored, the 2019 Clos de Bouärd rolls out of the glass with notions of Black Forest cake, stewed black plums and dried mulberries plus wafts of mocha, underbrush and Sichuan pepper. Medium to full-bodied, the palate is laden with layers of baked berries land framed by firm, chewy tannins and plenty of freshness, finishing spicy.

The 2019 Clos de Boüard is rich and expansive in the glass. Lavender, sage, spice, mint and chocolate overtones add terrific aromatic depth, but it is the wine's balance and overall presence that impress most. In 2019 Clos de Boüard is a wine of real substance and depth.

91-93+ The top wine of this estate, the 2019 Château Clos De Bouard is a Merlot-dominated wine that includes small amounts of Cabernet Franc and Cabernet Franc. It's made by Coralie de Bouard of Château Angelus, and as you'd expect from this talented team, the wine is brilliant, offering a dense purple color as well as rocking levels of blackcurrants, black cherries, graphite, leather, and crushed rock. Medium to full-bodied, ripe, and nicely concentrated, it has plenty of structure, if not a touch more obvious tannins than the 2018. Nevertheless, it should be approachable in its youth and have 15 years of longevity.

The 2019 Clos de Boüard has a seriously intense bouquet with layers of blackberry, briary and subtle floral scents, thankfully maintaining impressive focus and delineation. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannins and fine acidity. Velvety smooth in texture, it develops hints of bitter dark chocolate towards the finish that demonstrates good persistency, though I am seeking just a little more complexity and nuance here. Otherwise this is a fine Montagne Saint-Émilion from Coralie de Boüard.

Attractive, balanced red with a medium body and juicy fruit. Round tannins and a lightly chewy finish. Should soften out nicely with barrel aging.

Rich, lush, opulently textured black, blue and red fruits are what you find on the palate. That is until you work your way over to the medium/full-bodied, sensuous, chocolate, licorice, espresso and fruit-filled, supple textured finish. 92-94 Pts
