Tasted at Bordeaux Index annual 10-year on tasting from an ex-château bottle. The Troplong Mondot 2004 has a ripe and comparatively showy bouquet compared to others: macerated dark cherries, soy and iodine. The palate is medium-bodied with a balsamic-tinged entry and grippy, quite dry tannins. This is a broody Troplong Monday with impressive density and backbone and yet the finish is worryingly dry and tannic. Tasted March 2014.

Sweet cherry, white chocolate, black currant, and crushed rock-like characteristics are present in this medium-bodied St.-Emilion. Excellent richness, spicy tannin, and hints of underbrush and herbs in the finish result in an excellent rather than brilliant Troplong-Mondot that must take a back seat to their other-worldly 2005 and impressively endowed 2006. Give it 2-4 years, and it could have outstanding potential.

Red-ruby. Raspberry, plum, licorice and mocha on the nose, plus suggestions of meat, leather and burning tobacco. Supple and smooth on entry, then a bit simple in the middle palate, with a slight mintiness emerging with aeration. This is less filled in than the promising 2006, with less verve and definition. Finishes broad but slightly dry.

Aromas of blackberry, with hints of tobacco. Full-bodied, with fine tannins, good length and a delicate, fruity aftertaste. Much more refined than I remember from barrel. Caressing. Best after 2007. 5,000 cases made.

While it has closed down since last year, the impressively endowed 2004 Troplong Mondot displays a saturated blue/purple color along with hints of smoke, chocolate, espresso roast, plums, and black cherries. This extracted, powerful, tannic effort will need 5-6 years of bottle age, and should last until 2025.

Another terrific effort from charming proprietress Christine Valette, the dense blue/purple-hued 2004 Troplong Mondot displays a striking nose of acacia flowers intermixed with crushed rocks, black currants, cherries, blueberries, and raspberries. This layered, structured, backward, but enormously well-endowed 2004 is a marvelous demonstration of how to produce an elegant as well as substantially flavored wine. It will need 2-3 years of cellaring, and should keep until 2020.

Grand nez classique de cuir avec des notes d'épices et de fleurs, raison parfaitement mûr ayant contribué à l'harmonie du tannin, ferme mais sans agressivité, du style même si la vinosité n'est pas aussi marquée que chez quelques voisins.

Floral, with aromas of blackberry , plum and toasted oak. Full-bodied and chewy, with slightly extracted tannins thas should come around in the bottle. A chunky wine. 10,000 cases made.
