Château Suduiraut - Sauternes 2015

The harvest took place from September 4 to October 27, with five tries in total. The start was very early: a first sort was spread between 4 and 11 September and between 15 and 24 September mixing passerillage and botrytis (very modest production of 1 hl / ha as it is common during a first pass) . The second sort in the wake took place from September 15 to October 5. These first two tries are low in yield but of high quality. The musts are very rich with a very present fruitiness. The third sort, from September 24 to October 9, presented the heart of the harvest with a perfectly botrytised harvest: a generous passage in volume and wealth with a yield of nearly 7hl / ha. The fourth sort ended on October 26th, more modest but equally interesting qualitatively, was followed by a fifth sorting which took place from October 14th to 27th. This harvest ended with a smile because 2015 will give birth to a great sweet with a yield around 16 hl / ha.

A huge success in the vintage is the 2015 Château Suduiraut and this gem goes a long way towards showing how successful the sweet wines were in 2015. Offering a massive array of orange peel, honey, marmalade, flowers, and toasted nuts, this incredible wine hits the palate with a thunderous display of opulence, richness, and length, all while staying fresh, elegant, and seamless. It has a huge mid-palate and is reminiscent of the 2003, only with more freshness and delineation.

So keeny sculpted and yet with massive sweetness and layers. What is not to like? Deep and sweet and even – with great freshness. This property just does the biz every vintage!

Brooding aromas and flavours of cedar, ginger and spring flowers. Very long, tactile and tannic finish. Will need a long time to develop fully. 2020-2035

Made from 94% Semillon and 6% Sauvignon Blanc, the wine serves up a nose of honey, apricot, vanilla bean, roasted nut, flowers, papaya and orange. The wine is luscious, sweet, fat and fresh, with a long, intense, mouth filling finish.

The 2015 Suduiraut comes with 123 grams per liter of residual sugar, more modest than some of its Sauternes peers and 4.56 grams per liter of acidity. It has a sense of completeness on the nose already: immense clarity with wild honey and quince aromas that gain intensity in the glass. The palate is medium-bodied with very pure botrytised fruit, very focused and one of the most intense Sauternes you will find this year. It feels long and sophisticated in the mouth yet never overpowers, never really has to put its foot right down on the accelerator. This is a wonderful Suduiraut, not quite up to the level of the ethereal 2009...although not too far off. Drink 2020-2060

The 2015 Suduiraut is delicate, polished and impeccably balanced from the very first taste. Scents of orange peel, candied lemon, white flowers and mint abound. Silky and nuanced, the Suduiraut captures the essence of the vintage in its restrained personality. A closing flourish of expressive floral notes rounds things out nicely.

95–97. Barrel Sample. Naturally rich, but with fine acidity and a lift of freshness, this is a ripe and perfumed wine. The honey and orange marmalade flavors are there along with lemon jelly and a sense of structure. It is a balanced, poised wine from a fine vintage.

A ripe, rounded style, with loads of apricot, mango and glazed peach flavors, followed by a warm tarte Tatin finish. Still a touch youthfully raw, but shows serious depth.

Mitteldunkles Gelb, somit recht intensiv, leuchtender Rand.

A phenomenal white with dried fruits such as apricots and mangos. Masses of bortrytis spice. Full body yet agile and bright with incredible lightness and delicacy. So much cherry blossom too. Small white flowers. Medium sweet. Ginger. Great finish.
