The 2015 Soutard has a ripe dark cherry and boysenberry-scented bouquet that feels just a tad too showy at this stage. The palate is medium-bodied with sweet red cherry and crushed strawberry fruit, quite candied in style but at least there is satisfying detail and tension on the finish. It has indeed evolved the composure that I was hoping for in barrel, and I am interested to see how this ages in bottle. Anticipated maturity: 2021 - 2038.

The 2015 Château Soutard shows plenty of oak, yet offers ample crème de cassis, toasted spice, raspberry jam and licorice aromatics. Medium-bodied, supple and polished on the palate, with ripe tannin, tons of charming fruit, and sweet tannin, it's a ripe, sexy wine that also has rock solid elegance and purity.

Ensemble mûr, riche, aux nuances chocolatées. Au palais, il révèle un corps sphérique, avec une très agréable fraîcheur sur la finale.

Flowery with fresh, vibrant, sweet black raspberries, licorice, espresso, soft tannins and an approachable personality.

The 2015 Soutard felt a little warm on the nose when I tasted the barrel sample, the inky black fruit smudged by the alcohol. The palate is medium-bodied with smooth tannin, fleshy and harmonious in the mouth, the acidity perhaps lower than its peers with attractive strawberry and candied orange peel notes surfacing on the finish. I was expecting more from this estate, although let's see if it achieves more composure once in bottle. The élevage will have to be carefully handled.

Tannin svelte, droit et fin, belle longueur racée, finale pour l’instant un peu stricte.

Investment beginning to pay here and the class of the terroir is apparent. Lifted aromatics. Minerality with ample fruit and a fine grain of tannin. Builds on the palate to a long, persistent finish. 2023-2035

One of the first wines to be offered en primeur - at a confident premium on 2014. Very dark indeed. Overripe nose. Then a little mean and tight on the palate. Unexpected! Awkward and demanding. Drink 2023-2032.

92–94. Barrel Sample. This is a perfumed wine, rich in black plum and berry fruits. It has delicious acidity and a balanced structure that hints at wood and smokiness. The power is there, restrained by the fruit.

Bright and extremely balanced. Blackberry and blueberry aromas and flavors. Extremely refined and long. Best ever.
