A correct, pleasant wine, the 2008 offers notes of dusty, loamy soil, cherries, herbs and oak. It is a medium-bodied, lightweight claret to drink over the next 6-8 years. Drink 2011-2019

This generous red shows expressive flavors of black cherry, blackberry, violet and tobacco. The tannins are light, but give focus to the broad flavors, and lively acidity keeps this refreshing. Not muscular, but harmonious. Drink now through 2016. 8,333 cases made.

Ce vin a considérablement gagné en structure, avec une bouche qui demeure souple. Belle ampleur et un côté très charmeur. Jolis tanins.

Dunkles Rubingranat, jugendliche Reflexe, violetter Rand.

Medium deep red-ruby. Clean perfumed nose reminded me of a red fruit cocktail, with intriguing hints of orange peel and crystallized ginger. Full and sweet on entry, this has a mouth watering quality to its creamy ripe red fruit. Nicely balanced by fresh acids, it finishes long and smooth with a lingering ripe fruity quality.

Noticeable improvements are apparent at this property, and the 2008 is a very good effort. Dark ruby-hued with notes of red and black fruits, underbrush, and earth, sweet tannin, medium body, and a pure style, it should drink nicely for a decade.

Château La Pointe Pomerol. Very sweet fruit, deliciously approachable. Chocolate and ripe black fruit. The layer of tannin is important to keep all the opulence together.

Ce n’est pas le plus charnu du millésime et son tannin est encore un peu rêche, mais l’ensemble montre une belle vinosité, une tension de millésime de garde et une expression juste d’un terroir proche de Libourne.

A deep purple colour. The nose is lacking fruit intensity, rather broody at first although with some aeration there are aromas of bilberry and blackberry emerging. Similarly the second sample poured at Angelus is much better on the nose and really quite attractive. The palate is tannic, bold, assertive but lacking the requisite fruit to balance the structure. Hopefully this will coalesce by the time of bottling because there is a good La Pointe somewhere here. Just a little tart on the finish. The second bottle at Angelus is far superior – harmonious, svelte, cashmere tannins, a really lovely La Pointe. Tasted April 2009.

Rich, full, tarry – like the Pomerol before it, not the freshest sample. Lots of density there. Very dry and drying on the finish. Great vigour. Quite polished. Heartfelt, not overdone. Though pretty drying finish. Drink 2014-28

Riper than in the past. Round and seductive on the palate. Good potential in a lighter styled vein. Drink 2014-2023.

Lots of bright berry and flowers on the nose. Medium- to full-bodied, with velvety tannins and a clean, fresh and fruity finish. Long finish. A large property on the way up. The first vintage that Hubert de Boüard de Laforest of Angélus has been consulting here.

Château La Pointe Pomerol : De Bouard began consulting for this property last year, after it was taken over by insurance company Generali, with Eric Monneret as the new director. This is 22 hectares, a very large estate for Pomerol, with gravel, large stones, clay gravel and some large parts of sandy gravel. 85% Merlot, 15% Cabernet France. Beautifully deep crimson, violet colour and a rich, intense nose. They are beginning a lot of work with the soils, replanting vines and have already laid down an extensive drainage system. This wine is very rich, with pure fruit expression, and has lovely layers of flavour that reveal themselves very prettily as it stays in the mouth. More powerful than some years of La Pointe. Very good.
