The 2014 Pape-Clement Blanc has a seductive, creamy bouquet with crème brûlée, peach skin scents developing in the glass. The palate is medium-bodied with quite a thick veneer of new oak, creamy and commercial, not a dry white with scintillating terroir expression but you still find yourself taking sip after sip of this heady wine. Complex aromas of sliced apples, honey, pineapple and honeysuckle with hints of stones. Full body, firm and silky tannins and a beautiful finish. Intense and powerful. A combination of density and power. What a great finish. Drink in 2022 but fantastic to taste now.

Quite showy, with a broad and creamy feel, as this has a toasted macadamia nut frame around a large core of warm lemon pound cake, tangerine cream, white ginger and wet straw notes. Though hefty, this glides beautifully thanks to well-buried acidity. Best from 2018 through 2026. 1,250 cases made.

The 2014 Pape Clément Blanc is unctuous and beautifully textured, with soft contours and fabulous overall balance. Orchard fruit, apricot and gentle spice notes all come together in an open-knit Pessac-Léognan white that will drink well upon release. Lightly tropical notes and a kiss of French oak add closing nuance. As always, the Pape Clément Blanc is one of the most flamboyant whites - maybe the most flamboyant white - in Bordeaux, and yet all the elements fall into place effortlessly. Tasted three times.

The Château Pape-Clement Blanc 2014 is a blend of 50% Sémillon, 40% Sauvignon Blanc and 10% Sauvignon Gris picked between 8 and 23 September. There is a tangible richness, almost decadence on the nose that actually shades the Magrez-Fombrauge Blanc. Lemon curd and dried honey soar from the glass. The palate is very well balanced, powerful in the mouth, a slight viscosity coming through towards the finish that fans out with a sense of confidence and brio. This will be utterly irresistible.

As ever with this wine, ther is clear oak barrel influence from the first attack, giving a rich intensity to the stone fruits, majoring on peach and mango. Fairly high alcohol, staying true to the house style but with a very attractive acidity underneath. This is sweet, rich, but with a biting lift. Drink: 2017-2028 (91)
