Château Lynch Bages - Pauillac 2008 b5952cb1c3ab96cb3c8c63cfb3dccaca

Like all fresh and late vintages, it will have been necessary to intervene to protect the vineyard and to accompany the season with numerous green works: splitting, de-stemming, stripping and thinning. b5952cb1c3ab96cb3c8c63cfb3dccaca The goal is to safeguard an active leaf surface and ensure an optimum leaf / fruit balance. b5952cb1c3ab96cb3c8c63cfb3dccaca Following the return of the high pressure for the new moon in mid September, we start the castle and start the harvest under the sun with 4 days of delay compared to 2007. b5952cb1c3ab96cb3c8c63cfb3dccaca Fermentations last around ten days and already reveal deep colors and a rich phenolic potential. b5952cb1c3ab96cb3c8c63cfb3dccaca The vatting, lasting around twenty days on average and adapted to the potential of each plot, takes place at temperatures between 28 and 30 ° C. b5952cb1c3ab96cb3c8c63cfb3dccaca The first runoff confirms a good richness in anthocyanins, and the Cabernets stand out for their homogeneity and concentration. b5952cb1c3ab96cb3c8c63cfb3dccaca Yields at Lynch Bages are reasonable this year, although lessened by difficult flowering conditions. b5952cb1c3ab96cb3c8c63cfb3dccaca The malolactic fermentations, which take place for 2/3 thirds in vats and 1/3 in barrels, are all completed before the end of the year. b5952cb1c3ab96cb3c8c63cfb3dccaca Aging: 75% new wood b5952cb1c3ab96cb3c8c63cfb3dccaca

Wonderful purity of fruit here with flowers, clean fruit with strawberries and currants. Full bodied with fine tannins and floral and fruity with ultra fine tannins and elegance. Give it four to five years.

A sensational effort for the vintage, this textured, opulent, superb Lynch Bages is already strutting its stuff and should easily last for 20 years. Medium to full-bodied with an opaque dense purple color, notes of flowers and cassis, a layered texture that builds incrementally in the mouth and tremendous purity and depth, it can be drunk now or cellared for two decades or more. Bravo!

Very solid, with a super beam of dark currant, tobacco and iron pushed by charcoal, melted fig and cocoa notes. This has a nicely rounded feel, but there's plenty of grip in reserve. Best from 2013 through 2018. -J.M

Tiefdunkles Rubingranat, jugendlich Reflexe, violetter Rand.

Deep purple-ruby. Pure nose offers blackcurrant, minerals and spicy bitter chocolate. Suave and rich, with flavors of blackcurrant and spicy plum. At once fatter and finer-grained than the 2007, with harmonious acidity buffering its voluptuous texture. The broad, mouthcoating finish features fine tannins, excellent length and a floral note.

18/20 2018 – 2038

This strong effort from Lynch Bages may turn out to be the finest wine produced here since the 2000. It is a backward, powerful, opaque purple-colored 2008 with fine acids, firm but sweet tannins, and thick, dense levels of attractive blackberry and cassis fruit intertwined with notions of underbrush, lead pencil shavings, and roasted herbs. It appears to be a denser, richer effort than some of the more lightweight Lynch Bages offerings of recent years. Anticipated maturity: 2013-2030. 91-93+

Quite brutal smelling. Then rich and sweet and silky at first but followed by lots of acidity. A bit green and awkward. Very drying finish. Needs lots of time. Not charming at the moment... though it’s certainly solid and gets better toward the end. Drink 2016-26 16,5+

Black-red, plummy concentration of blackcurrants with smoky fragrance, good rich fruit on the palate, good length, depth of fruit and ripe tannins to mature well. Drink 2016-25.

This has a cohesive nose: blackberry, cedar, just a faint hint of thyme – good definition and focus although not quite the thrilling clarity of Pichon Baron. This is a very “correct” Lynch Bages that reminds more a little of Latour, very pure black fruit, cedar, a touch of briary, a slight tertiary notes towards the finish. Very well balanced and defined, good length, nice persistency. Excellent – unadulterated Cabernet that should drink well over two decades. Tasted April 2009.

Beautiful aromas of milk chocolate and crushed berries follow through to a full body, with soft, velvety tannins and a juicy finish.
