Mid crimson with a bit of evolution. Fragrant. Much less concentrated than the Barton but an attractive expression of the vintage and appellation. Dry overall and quite sinewy. You could start to drink this even though it is far from its apogee.

The plushest, most ostentatious and dramatic of all the Leovilles in 2000, this wine is already sumptuous, displaying some nuances in its huge nose of vanilla bean, black chocolate, jammy black cherries, cassis, and graphite in a flamboyant style. Opulent, savory, rich, and full-bodied, it is a head-turning, prodigious wine and a complete contrast to the extracted behemoth of Leoville Barton and the backward, classic Leoville Las Cases. The Poyferre’s low acidity, sweet tannin and an already gorgeous mouthfeel make it a wine to drink now as well as over the next 25 or more years. Drink : 2010-2035.

Plus plein à ce stade que Barton, avec un boisé plus marqué et des tanins arrondis par l'élevage, il se distingue par un caractère flatteur et épicé. "Moderne", il séduit dès maintenant, mais ne manque pas de potentiel.

This has an incredibly intense nose, not decadent but surfeit with fruit concentration and brilliant delineation. Blackberry, plum, sandalwood, cedar and a touch of tar. Very complex, very enthralling. The palate is full-bodied, delectable balance with wonderful delineation and poise. Perhaps it is beginning to close up, but there is still evidence of perfectly ripe black fruits, minerals, blueberry and blood orange. Very refined on the finish, this is a fabulous wine. Drink 2015-2035+ Tasted March 2008.

Wow, this wine has really come on strong. A brilliant effort, it boasts an opaque purple color in addition to a gorgeously sweet nose (make that explosive nose) of blackberries and creme de cassis intermixed with minerals, smoke, and earth. The 2000 is opulent, full-bodied, and much more accessible than either of its two Leoville siblings, Leoville Las Cases or Leoville Barton, with low acidity, sweet tannin, and a layered, sumptuous finish. It continues to improve dramatically and looks to be a great success, rivaling the brilliant 1996 and 1990. Anticipated maturity: 2009-2030

Superb. Vivid, with lovely aromas of berries, minerals, toasted oak and leather. Full-bodied, with extremely well-integrated tannins and a long finish. A wine to remember. Best ever from this estate. Best after 2010. 20,000 cases made.

This admirable effort builds incrementally in the mouth with a cunning display of power that is not initially evident. At first, the wine seems subtle and elegant, but then, wow! The length, impressive purity, and layers of concentrated fruit build upwards like a skyscraper. There is sweet tannin as well as copious quantities of glycerin, concentrated creme de cassis fruit intermixed with minerals, smoke, and earth. This 2000 may even improve further given the manner in which it has developed over the last year. Anticipated maturity: 2007-2025.

This fabulous effort boasts a saturated blue/purple color as well as thick-tasting blackberry and black currant fruit intermixed with licorice. There is true opulence in addition to gorgeous levels of fruit, glycerin, and extract. The tannin is elevated, but the 2000 is a sensational Poyferre. Anticipated maturity: 2005-2030.
