This wine is glorious – so to speak – with loads of exuberant fruit and plenty of cedary forest floor, Christmas fruitcake, blackcurrant and cherry fruit. This dark ruby/purple-colored wine is again an over-achieving beauty. Drink it over the next 15 or so years.

Mid crimson. Fresh, intense nose with real life. Nothing dragged down by density here. Very well put together. Great balance even if a little more forward than many. Dry rather than sweet in terms of total expression. 13% Drink 2017-2030

D'un beau registre classique et moelleux en bouche. Son corps est fin et ses tanins élégants.

Tasted single blind at Southwold. This did not show well at primeur, but here in this blind tasting I am won over. It has a lovely cedar-infused nose – great expression and definition with blackberry, cedar of graphite coming through. Very well structured on the spicy palate, vibrant black fruits, grainy, earthy, slightly austere finish but undoubtedly excellent concentration and persistency. Drink 2012-2025. Tasted January 2009.

Red-ruby. Leather, mocha and a whiff of game on the nose; less pure and expressive today than the 2006. Big and rich but not particularly fruity. Presents a somewhat awkward combination of impressive volume and leafy cabernet. Finishes with tough, somewhat rustic tannins.

A big-time sleeper of the vintage, this St.-Julien reveals notes of tapenade, spice box, cedar, sweet black cherries, and black currants. An opulent texture, terrific fruit, medium to full body, and abundant concentration suggest this stunning Gloria will provide plenty of pleasure over the next 15 years.

One of the finest Glorias I have ever tasted, the dense ruby/purple-tinged 2005 reveals a big, sweet perfume of black olives, black cherries, cassis, spice box, and cedar. Boasting terrific fruit, medium to full body, and more power and richness than usual, it will provide delicious drinking during its first two decades of life.

As usual, the dark ruby/purple-colored 2005 Gloria is a model of the fruit-driven, minimally-oaked style of Bordeaux winemaking. It reveals a broader structure and more density and delineation than usual along with tremendous ripeness, sweet fruit, and moderate tannin. This hedonistic St.-Julien will benefit from 2-3 years of bottle age, and last for 12-15.

This shows a lovely silky texture and ripe fruit ranging from plums to chocolate to toasted oak. Full-bodied, with velvety tannins and a long, rich finish. Juicy young red. Very close to 92-94. —J.S.
