Attractive plum-cake nose that’s quite open. Then comes quite a robust, tannic wine with crisp acidity that has a lot of the virtues of the vintage but isn’t that subtle. Needs time to soften.

The 2014 Fonroque is an attractive, pleasing wine. Sweet red cherry, flowers, iron, smoke and chalk notes give the wine its perfumed, savory personality. It would be nice to see a little more midpalate depth, but overall, the 2014 is very nicely done. Tasted two times.

The 2014 Fonroque is plump, supple and easygoing, with good depth and appealing, open personality. Red cherry, red currant, chalk, smoke and iron add nuance on the savory, slightly clenched finish. Today, a measure of depth is lacking, especially in the mid-palate.

Licorice, herbs and cherries, this medium-bodied wine is elegantly styled with a fresh, light berry finish. 88-90 pts

The Château Fonroque 2014 blossoms from the glass with ebullient red berry fruit mixed with rose petal and violets aromas. This palate is crisp and focused with a keen line of acidity that neatly counterbalanced the silky textured, lightly spiced fruit. This is already showing fine cohesion and poise–an excellent wine courtesy of Alain Moueix and one of my picks from the Right Bank this year.

Biodynamically run. Terroir based wine. Lively, minerally, dark and red fruit nose. Acidity marked (low pH). Fresh but slightly chewy finish. Drink: 2020-2028 (87)

Mid crimson. Pretty dense texture and then distinctly sour on the end. Not gracious.

A dense and fruity red with plum, chocolate and earth character. Medium to full body, firm tannins and a medium finish.

92–94. Barrel Sample. This is a finely structured wine, with a great line in pure fruitiness. It has dense tannins that are balanced by fresh acidity. The texture is thick and concentrated, suggesting the wine will age well.

A pure, racy version, with a lovely floral edge to the blood orange, cherry and red currant fruit flowing atop the finely beaded acidity. Offers a long, elegant finish.
Very charming.
