Above all else, the 2012 La Dominique speaks to precision. Beautifully expressive in the glass, the 2012 offers a compelling mélange of plum, lavender, mint, licorice and purplish fruits. Sweet floral and spiced notes add yet another dimension on the deep, pure finish. There is so much to like here. The 2012 is 95% Merlot and 5% Cabernet Franc. Michel Rolland and Jean-Philippe Fort consult.

This is a gorgeous, hedonistic, yet complex La Dominique with an inky purple color, oodles of blue, red and black fruits, sweet tannin, a generous, opulent, full-bodied mouthfeel, and a long finish. This 2012 is sensational and further evidence of the rebound of La Dominique after a few years of mediocrity. It is a sleeper of the vintage to be drunk over the next 15 years.

A red with dried fruits, blanched almonds and white chocolate that follow through to a firm palate, bright acidity and a fruity finish. Drink in 2016.

Offers a lively spice box profile, with anise, cinnamon and clove notes studding the core of crushed plum and boysenberry fruit. A light savory shading runs through the caressing, open-knit finish. Best from 2016 through 2022. 7,500 cases made. –JM

Dark crimson. Strange nose, as though some unusal oak had played a part. Some rather excessive green notes on the end and a hint of oily oakiness.Drink

Fruité net, boisé marqué, joli fond de vin, juteux, très écrasé par le bois à ce stade mais prometteur. O= 2017 G= 10 ans

The La Dominique is a blend of 80% Merlot and 20% Cabernet Franc. It has a very tight, slightly taciturn bouquet that does not exude the expressiveness of say Grand Mayne of Dassault. The palate is medium-bodied with slightly tough tannins. As usual, I just don’t feel the harmony at this stage and it seems a little attenuated towards the finish. Tasted April 2013.

Vivacious blueberry, lingonberry and blackberry fruit bounces along here, with a briary underpinning and buried spice notes on the juicy finish. —J.M.

Couleur sombre, intense et belle. Nez fruité et crémeux. Bouche moelleuse, arrondie, parfumée et plutôt grasse dans l'ensemble. Longueur normale.

Drink 2018-2025
Very dark, black almost to the rim. Refined aromas – restrained pure dark fruit, a very very slight and attractive leafy note. Smells cool. Cedary, firm and has lots of lovely Bordeaux elegance. Beautifully proportioned. Finishes dry but not drying. Very fine tannins and plenty of them. (JH)

The 2012 La Dominique is a hedonistic, medium to full-bodied effort with lots of black olive, black raspberry, licorice and kirsch characteristics. It is a well-endowed, fleshy, succulently textured wine exhibiting outstanding ripeness, no dilution and sweet tannin. Consume it over the next 10-15 years.

This is a resounding success for La Dominique, which seems to have returned to the path of glory after a wayward trek.
Drink: 2013 - 2028

A wine with a full body, and a very good depth of ripe, velvety tannins. Plenty of fruit. Balanced and juicy.
