The 2013 Desmirail has a satisfactory nose with blackberry and raspberry confit scents, perhaps missing some vigor, but at least demonstrating Margaux-like character. The palate is medium-bodied with supple red fruit, fine tannin and good acidity, showing more elegance than many of its peers if never entertaining the notion of "complexity." Still, this underrated Margaux punches above my expectations from barrel and is worth a look.

With an oaky, sexy nose and a red berry compote melange of flavours this is a pretty impressive wine. The whole package is pretty slick and the oak highlights the spicier elements in the fruit without pulverising them. This is a very well made wine considering the vintage.

Aha – proper Margaux perfume on the nose. Sweet fruit, lots of lifted violet scent. Very powerful tannic grip but not so much as to upset the balance. Decent length. Has the concentration to age well.

The Desmirail 2013 has a light strawberry and redcurrant bouquet with touches of cedar and undergrowth. The palate is medium-bodied with some pleasant cedar-infused black fruit on the entry, but it seems one-dimensional and foursquare on the finish.
