Decanter.com 91 / 100 byJane Ansonthe11/1/2018 Owned by Mathieu Cuvelier since 2013, this has rich, silky bilberry fruits and tight tannins. It's a little high in acidity but this places focus on the salinity that's evident on the finish. Clear potential. Drinking Window 2024 - 2038
The Wine Cellar Insider 89 / 100 byJeff Levethe5/11/2017 Blending 80% Merlot , 15% Cabernet Franc and 5% Cabernet Sauvignon , this wine is sweet, fresh, soft, medium bodied and crisp with a Sweetarts finish that offers both sweet red fruits with a hint of crispy, tart accents.
Bettane & Desseauve 92-93 / 100 by Bettane & Desseauvethe5/3/2017 Onctueux, savoureux, fruit délicat, joli tannin très bien extrait.
Wine Advocate 90-92 / 100 byNeal Martinthe5/2/2017 The 2016 Cote de Baleau has a lovely, very pretty bouquet with ebullient red cherry and crushed strawberry fruit with beautifully integrated oak. The palate is medium-bodied with precise, carefully placed tannin. There is fine focus here, just a touch of rigidity in the mouth, quite saline and spicy, a Saint Emilion that just needs a little (during élevage) to gain some more flesh.
Wine Spectator 90-93 / 100 byJames Molesworththe4/10/2017 Delicious layers of fig, boysenberry and blueberry fruit are starting to meld, while a graphite spine drives the finish. Ample licorice and sweet spice notes hang in the background. Ample raw material here and nearly fully integrated.—J.M.
Jamessuckling.com 90-91 / 100 byJames Sucklingthe4/5/2017 A pretty young red with mineral and dark-berry character. Medium to full body and a juicy finish.
Decanter.com 91 / 100 byJane Ansonthe4/3/2017 A 14.9ha property owned by Philippe and Matthieu Cevelier of Clos Fourtet, one of their fairly recent purchases of three properties. This has some clear black fruit flavours and lovely, controlled spicing. Very appetising , with the focus on minerality and salinity even though this is powerfully structured. Hugely promising. Planted to 80% Merlot, 15% Cabernet Franc and 5% Cabernet Sauvignon. Drinking Window 2023 - 2038
