Good bright ruby-red. Plum, currant, coffee, graphite, tobacco and licorice on the nose, lifted by a peppery element. Plush, sweet and ripe but youthfully reticent; dense and broad but not at all heavy, thanks to fresh acidity. This really saturates the palate with flavor but is tight today and in need of three or four years of patience.

This well-known estate consistently performs at a high level, and proprietor Stephan von Neipperg-s 2007 is a beauty. Cropped at 26 hectoliters per hectare, this blend of 55% Merlot, 35% Cabernet Franc, and 10% Cabernet Sauvignon possesses a dark ruby/purple color, a surprisingly full-bodied style with sweet notes of fruitcake, graphite, black cherry, black currant, and incense. Round, full-bodied, and opulent with well-integrated oak, it is a fleshy, full, exuberant wine that is ideal for drinking now and over the next decade. It achieved 13.5% natural alcohol.... Drink 2010-2020

Pretty milk chocolate, earth, mushroom and berry on the nose. Medium- to full-bodied, with good fruit, fine tannins and a fresh finish. Slightly hollow midpalate. Drinkable now, but will develop complexity with bottle age. Best after 2012.

Strong, sweet blackcurrant aroma. Smooth but quite thick tannins. Plenty of oak spice thought it has the fruit to support it. easy. Drink 2011-17

(a blend of 55% merlot, 40% cabernet franc and 5% cabernet sauvignon) Good medium ruby-red. Crushed blueberry, menthol and spices on the nose. Densely packed for the year and quite unevolved, with good mineral lift to the dark berry flavors. Dominated by its cabernet franc, but the merlot here seems nicely structured in the context of the year. Finishes with raspberry and chocolate flavors and harmonious tannins.

Dunkles Rubingranat, jugendliche Reflexe, violetter Rand.

Dark blueish. Round, cloudlike impression on the nose. Sweet and round and easy, flattering – this sample doesn’t have any dry tannins. Big, bold, ripe fruit on the nose and very gentle palate texture. Definitely ripe enough and already quite nicely balanced even if not for the very long term. Vibrant fruit. Quite long and no painful dry tannins. Riper than most. Quite soft.

Wonderful perfumes already of flowers and berry. Medium-bodied, with good fruit, fine tannins and a bright finish. Lots of citrus fruit and berry. A little hollow. Cabernet Franc comes through. 55 percent Merlot, 35 Cabernet Franc and 10 Cabernet Sauvigno —J.S.
