Granatrot.

The 2016 Bouscaut was tasted on two or three occasions and like some other wines from Pessac-Léognan, it felt just a little blowsy on the nose with some very ripe Merlot that just detracted from the precision and delineation. The palate is actually better with firm and quite robust tannin, saline and quite masculine (unlike the aromatics) with good definition in the finish. There is some new oak to be subsumed here and it may just dominate the fruit, however, Bouscaut often pulls itself together during the barrel maturation and ends up winning over tastebuds. Therefore I will be an optimist, though would warn that this 2016 will benefit from two or three years in bottle at least.

(55 Merlot, 38 Cabernet Sauvignon, 7 Malbec) Tough tannins and some powerful fruit make this a wine that requires age, but the fruit is ripe and enticing so it will most definitely be worth the wait. 17+

I'm impressed with both colours of Bouscaut this year, but the red is the clear winner. Good firm tannins and some contemporary cocoa dusting, combined with a juicy finish. It really does have a luscious quality, just the right side of indulgently rich. Good, medium term drinking. Drinking Window 2025 - 2040

Dark purple. Very rich, sweet nose. Super-flattering; maybe just a little too sweet for perfectionists but there is masses of pleasure to be had here. Though the finish is a little drying and sandpapery. Pretty glam! Drink 2026-2040

Barrel Sample. Structured and dense, the wine has bold blackberry fruits and tannins like velvet. It is full-bodied with great acidity as well as generous fruitiness. One of the best from this estate.

A juicy and fruity red with plum and berry character. Some meat, too. Full and chewy. Shows the richness and depth for the vintage.
