Tasted blind at Farr Vintners 2004 horizontal tasting. The Beausejour Becot 2004 is a little more opulent on the nose compared to its peers, erring towards red berry fruit embroidered with a mixture of candied orange peel, raspberry coulis, sandalwood and mulberry. There is a satisfying "melted" feel to the aromatics. The palate is medium-bodied with a furry texture. There is plenty of succulent red fruit moving firmly into their secondary phase with tobacco, truffle and white pepper on the almost Rhone-like finish. This is very attractive and should drink well over the next decade. Tasted March 2014.

Good red-ruby. Expressive nose offers cherry liqueur, currant, coffee, mocha and menthol, plus a meaty nuance. Supple and sweet, with lovely stuffing and depth of flavor. Not a big boy, but ripe acids give it good balance. Spreads out nicely to coat the palate on the finish. This has turned out very well.

A strong effort from the Becot family, this blend of 70% Merlot, 24% Cabernet Franc, and 6% Cabernet Sauvignon exhibits a saturated dense ruby/purple color, sweet notes of creme de cassis, cherries, earth, and subtle herbs, a spicy, medium to full-bodied, soft, opulent style, and a fleshy, long finish. Enjoy this hedonistic yet complex wine over the next 12-15 years. Just under 6,000 cases were produced.

Very grapey and fresh on the nose, with hints of flowers. Full-bodied, with very well-integrated tannins and a complex, subtle aftertaste of vanilla, blueberry and cream. Long and refined. Best after 2012. 5,416 cases made.

One of the Right Bank’s finest efforts, the deep ruby/plum/purple-tinged 2004 displays a sumptuous perfume of raspberries, black cherries, white chocolate, and smoke. This modern-styled, dense, fleshy, rich St.-Emilion possesses good acidity, moderate tannin, and a long finish. Anticipated maturity: 2008-2020.

Généreux et expressif, joliment écpicé, ce cru extraverti impressionne tout en masquant ses qualités de fond, de concentration, sous un boisé très adroit.

Production for this outstanding offering from proprietor Gerard Becot was relatively abundant in 2004 (7,200 cases from a blend of 70% Merlot, 24% Cabernet Franc, and 6% Cabernet Sauvignon). An exuberant, modern-styled St.-Emilion, it exhibits lavish quantities of toasty new oak along with notes of black cherries, espresso roast, white chocolate, and vanilla/pain grille in a medium to full-bodied, concentrated format. With impressive purity, depth, and length, it should drink well for 15 or more years.

Wonderful length fort the vintage. Full-bodied, with silky tannins and a berry, toasted oak and chocolate aftertaste. Serious. Better than La Gomerie. 7,720 cases made.
