The Mission Haut-Brion Chapel - Château Mission Haut-Brion - Pessac-Léognan 2014 6b11bd6ba9341f0271941e7df664d056

The 2014 vintage will be marked by an Indian summer as remarkable as it is saving. 6b11bd6ba9341f0271941e7df664d056 The good climatic conditions of spring ensure a normal start of the vegetative cycle. 6b11bd6ba9341f0271941e7df664d056 However, the difficult conditions of the summer season slow the maturity of the grapes. 6b11bd6ba9341f0271941e7df664d056 Fortunately, there follows a breathtaking September, with dry weather, particularly sunny and temperatures approaching 30 °. 6b11bd6ba9341f0271941e7df664d056 This fine weather, embellished with cool nights, will allow the grapes to reach a very beautiful maturity and an excellent sanitary state. 6b11bd6ba9341f0271941e7df664d056 Intense ripe red fruit, cherry, a hint of cocoa appear on the nose. 6b11bd6ba9341f0271941e7df664d056 The attack, wrapped in a nice tannic structure, gives way to a more melted and pleasantly fresh mid-palate. 6b11bd6ba9341f0271941e7df664d056 The fruit flavors extend into the finish appreciably. 6b11bd6ba9341f0271941e7df664d056

Bright red plum, pomegranate, spices, graphite and smoke emerge from the 2014 La Chapelle de La Mission Haut-Brion, a bold, intense wine loaded with class and pedigree. Rich, ample and broad on the palate, the 2014 delivers tons of intensity, especially at this level. A final burst of expressive red fruit, iron and smoke punctuates a super-expressive finish buffered by veins of acidity and minerality that confer freshness. The higher than usual percentage of Cabernet Franc adds to the wine's aromatic intrigue. This is a superb second wine. The blend is 45% Merlot, 31% Cabernet Franc and 24% Cabernet Sauvignon.

Polished, and medium-bodied with clean fruit, this wine starts off with dark ripe berries and moves to a fresh cassis and peppered blackberry finish. Made from a blend of 56% Cabernet Sauvignon, 28.5% Merlot and 15.5% Cabernet Franc, the wine reached 14.25% alcohol. 89-91 Pts

The La Chapelle de la Mission Haut-Brion 2014 is a blend of 45% Merlot, 31% Cabernet Franc and 24% Cabernet Sauvignon. It has a tightly wound bouquet at first with blackcurrant and hints of orange blossom lending a prettiness. The palate is medium-bodied with crisp tannin, a nice underbelly of classicism (emanating partly from the 8% vin de presse) underneath a veneer of ripe black fruit, easing down to a supple, “fruity” finish. Fine, though there is a chasm between deuxième and Grand Vins this year.

45% Merlot, 31% Cabernet Franc, 24% Cabernet Sauvignon.
Mid crimson and medium weight. Solid bright fruit with some fine, well-managed tannins but very much a second wine. Chewy finish and altogether a bit lightweight and lacking any opulence.

There is a softness to this wine that is attractive - ripe plum and redcurrant with hint of spices. The wine combines freshness with vibrant flavors, ripe, firm tannins and supple texture.

Gorgeous nose, open and inviting, with firm fresh fruits, on the perfectly ripe but not overly ripe scale, plum and damson, firm tannins, slightly chewy, this has well controlled extraction, fine tannic structure, with the floating effect in the mid palate that the best estates have mastered so well in 2014 by enhancing the high acidity levels. Perhaps a touch lean, 45% Merlot, 31% Cabernet Franc, 24% Cabernet Sauvignon. Drink: 2021-2035 (89)

45 % Merlot, 31 % Cabernet Franc, 24 % Cabernet Sauvignon. Tiefes Purpur, satte Mitte. 17/20 2021 – 2033

92–94. Barrel Sample. This richly structured, full wine is soft and rounded, with black currant and intense acidity as the background. The tannins feel deceptively firm because of the fruit.

Vibrant blueberry and pastille notes form the core, with good energy from the savory and tobacco accents. Has a lightly chewy edge through the finish, giving this a
grippy feel.Tasted non-blind.
