The 2014 Saint Pierre offers good depth and intensity, even if some slightly angular contours remain. Smoke, tobacco, game, licorice and incense are all pushed forward in a dark, powerful St. Julien. Today, the 2014 comes across as a bit rustic. It will be interesting to see what time brings.

Like a seductress whose essence haunts the room long after she has made her exit, this wine offers a heady and unforgettable bouquet of blackberry, dark cherry, espresso bean, earth and cocoa. Focused and structured to age, this wine rings with volume, length, character and freshness. It will be undoubtedly delicious after only a few years of aging. The Château Saint-Pierre 2014 is a blend of 78% Cabernet Sauvignon, 16% Merlot and 6% Cabernet Franc. There is a sense of harmony and focus on the nose: nicely defined with a touch of tobacco developing in the glass. The palate is medium-bodied with good grip, quite saline and sappy in the mouth with spice on the structured finish. This is a more masculine Saint-Pierre, but it is well crafted with very good length. It just feels rather conservative compared to some of its Saint Julien siblings.

78% Cabernet Sauvignon, 16% Merlot, 6% Cabernet Franc. 50% new oak. 32 hl/ha. Very good Cabernet Franc which ripened well and slowly – only the fourth time it has been included in the grand vin. 
Very deep glowing crimson. Very Cabernet on the nose with just a hint of oak. Cool and inky. Very restrained and almost timid but there is a good charge of fruit and tannins and no excess acidity. Just ripe enough but with attractive freshness. Focused and set for the long term. Ambitious and sinewy but restrained and backward now. Hums along and is especially impressive on the finish. Super correct. A little dry but not drying on the end at present.

Sattes Purpur-Granat, dicht in der Mitte, lila Schimmer aussen. Holundriges Bouquet mit gewisser Fülle, sehr weich im Ansatz, Lakritze, mittlere Tiefe anzeigend. Im Gaumen mit frischer, reifer Cabernetanzeige, floraler Touch, die Tannine sind sehr elegant und zeigen im Finale ziemlich feine Muskeln. Er dürfte im Finale vielleicht etwas mehr Druck aufweisen. Aber vielleicht kommt dies noch. Die Anlagen sind sehr gut. 17/20 2022 – 2068

91–93. Barrel Sample. Oak notes dominate this in wine, with spice, toast and vanilla tones hovering over fruit. There is a sense of over extraction that is luckily mitigated by lively acidity. It needs time to balance out.

There's good flesh here, with layers of fig, blueberry and blackberry pâte de fruit backed by mouthwatering anise and warm fruitcake notes. The long, briary finish exhibits solid density. A strong showing for this generally more elegant-styled wine.
