Castle Quintus - Saint-Emilion Grand Cru 2014

The vintage 2014 will be marked by an Indian summer as remarkable as saving. The good spring weather conditions ensure a normal start of the vegetative cycle. However, the difficult conditions of the summer season slow down the maturity of the grapes. Luckily, a stunning month of September ensues, with dry, sunny weather and temperatures around 30 ° C. This beautiful weather, decorated with cool nights, will allow the grapes to reach a very beautiful maturity and an excellent sanitary condition. The nose reveals raspberry, pepper and spicy notes. The mouth full of roundness and sweetness reveals ripe and tasty tannins. The just freshness emphasizes the brilliance of the fruit. This sensation persists on an expressive and fine finish.

The 2014 Quintus presents lovely dark red cherry, stone fruits, spices, leather and tobacco all in an attractive, mid-weight style. Round and silky through to the finish, the 2014 fleshes out quite nicely, suggesting it will drink well early. The blend is 69% Merlot and 31% Cabernet Franc. Tasted two times.

A medium-bodied wine, which is fresh and spicy with a hot, cherry pie character and a fresh, elegant black raspberry finish. The wine was produced from a blend of 89% Merlot and 11% Cabernet Franc, reaching 14.45% alcohol. 90-91 Pts

The Château Quintus 2014 was picked between 29 September until 8 October and consists of 69% Merlot and 31% Cabernet Franc. It represents 23% of the the total crop that of course, now includes L’Arrosée (three hectares that were unclassified now used for a 3rd label.) It has a candied bouquet, clearly with much more fruit concentration than the deuxième vin: hints of licorice developing with time. The palate is medium-bodied with ripe, supple tannin, soft and plush in the mouth, a generous Quintus in the making, one with a crowd-pleasing aspect to it without compromising on quality.

A well composed Quintus from a challenging vintage on the Right Bank for Merlot - this is 69% Merlot and the rest Cabernet Franc. While this vintage is not that concentrated nor intense, there is plenty of refreshing red and black fruit with spices that make this wine attractive and balanced. Enjoy it after 2018.

Lots of Cabernet Franc this year (31%) - mainly from former Tertre Daugay. Merlot from former l'Arrosée also included. Big step up from the second wine. Dark fruit and spice notes. Classical and linear in style. Tannins very fine and long. Best yet from this new (2011) creation. Drink: 2020-2030 (90+)

25% selection. 31% Cabernet Franc, 69% Merlot. Their fourth vintage and ‘our best ever’. Delmas admits they picked grapes 10 days too early in 2011.
Spicy fruit and energy. Very polished tannins and lifted fruit. Pretty dry on the end. Bracing and spirited. A bit angular. Not that much depth or subtlety. But there is certainly polish!

First year that includes L’Arrssée and Quintus togehter. A wonderful balance and finesse to this wine. Full and refined with dark berries, wet earth and stones. Extremely long and lively. Muscular.

17/20 2023 – 2037

91–93. Barrel Sample. This wine is rich and soft, showing ripe blackberry fruits. The tannins are firmly buried in the rich fruit flavors, with bright acidity and ripe fruit tones dominate the palate.

Offers bright cassis and violet notes, with a pleasantly firm, chalky spine holding the finish. Shows solid length, with a good briary feel at the very end lending added
range and contrast. Easily the best vintage since the acquisition.
