A gracious, mid-weight wine, the 2014 Mauvesin-Barton is best appreciated in its youth. Sweet floral and spiced notes waft from the glass, followed by attractive red-fleshed fruits. The 2014 is delicate, and even a touch fleeting, but all the elements are in the right place. This is a solid showing from the Barton family.

Light in color, the wine has a fresh, bright red cherry and cranberry character that will be best in its youth. 86-87 Pts

The Château Mauvisin Barton 2014, whose technical director is Mélanie Barton-Sartorius, is a blend of 53% Merlot, 29% Cabernet Sauvignon, 17% Cabernet Franc and 1% Petit Verdot. It has a light, fragrant, floral bouquet that gently unfolds with touches of freshly tilled earth infusing the black fruit. The palate is medium-bodied with a lightly peppered opening. This is a little rustic, but nicely balanced with a crisp spicy finish that is classic in style. Give this three or four years after bottling.

Lilian Barton’s new property. Dark crimson. Inky and fragrant – a bit like a good Chinon. Good confident palate entry. Very refreshing. Not a long-term wine (relatively low tannins) but charmingly assembled for early drinking.

Restrained and subtle with hints of cedar, violets and plums. This is a classic style with delicate, seamless, quiet flavors but with nice intensity and finish. Made by Melanie Barton, the daughter of Lillian Barton; consulted by Eric Boissenot.

Fine fruit with a lightness due to young vines, but the Moulis quality is there. Lovely balance. Drink: 2018-2022 (86)

This is very pretty. Best I have had from here with delicious fruit, soft tannins and a clean finish. Savory.

90–92. Barrel Sample. From the property now owned by the Barton family of Léoville-Barton, the wines show promise. This vintage brings refined berry fruit flavors supported by weighty tannins.

Pretty bergamot, plum and cherry fruit is lined with lightly dusty tannins and backed by a gentle whiff of tobacco.
