Carillon of the Angelus - Saint-Emilion Grand Cru 2014

On the nose a discreet toasted grill that fits well with the fruit notes of walls. On the palate, after a supple attack, a sweet evolution based on a structure of tight little tannins. Nice length where you find fresh fruit.

The 2014 Le Carillon d'Angelus has a straightforward bouquet with redcurrant, cranberry and pomegranate aromas, the oak discretely hidden behind the fruit. The palate is medium-bodied with fine tannin, not much depth, but it retains satisfying balance on the black olive-tinged finish. Drink over the next four or five years.

A silky and fruity red with very fine tannins and lovely fruit. Medium-bodied, clean and bright. Second wine of Angélus. Drink or hold.

The 2014 Le Carillon d’Angélus is silky, open-knit and accessible. There is good depth and density, but from bottle the wine lacks some of the freshness it showed from barrel. I would prefer to drink the 2014 sooner rather than later.

A dense, powerful, explosive wine, the 2014 Le Carillon d'Angélus hits the palate with serious depth. Smoke, licorice, raspberry jam, black cherries, spices and menthol flesh out in the glass. The Carillon is a very serious second wine built on pure intensity. The blend is 70% Merlot and 30% Cabernet Franc.

This early drinking wine, with its ripe cherry and plum essence, will offer pleasurable charms upon release. 86-88 Pts

The Le Carillon d’Angelus 2014 is a blend of 70% Merlot, 15% Cabernet Sauvignon and 15% Cabernet Franc. It has quite a "sexy" bouquet compared to the Grand Vin with plush blueberry and black cherry scents, and a smear of vanilla from the oak. It perhaps just lacks a little precision that you might have found in a top vintage. The palate is medium-bodied with crisp, slightly chalky tannin. It is quite a compact wine with a slightly brittle but balanced saline finish.

The palate is quite dense and the dark plum and blackberry fruit is tightly knit. Not expressive at the moment with firm, chewy tannins that will need time to weave together with the fruit. A bit dry on the finish.

An extra 5ha of Merlot from a parcel near La Tour Figeac added this year. Hence blend of 70% Merlot, 30% Cabernet Franc. Fruit driven nose. Palate round but fresh. Joly fruit again. Structure behind. Tannins clean and fine. Drink: 2018-2025 (88)

About 70% Merlot, 30% Cabernet Franc. Picked 3-22 October.
Nervy and racy. Silky textured at first but pretty dry on the end. Very polished. Rather inky.

An aromatic and balanced red with currants, plums and light chocolate. Medium to full body, fine tannins and a bright finish. Best second wine from here for a long time. May be ever. 70% merlot and rest is cabernet sauvignon and cabernet franc.

92–94. Barrel Sample. The 50% new wood gives a toasty character to the wine, but is not overdone. It has intense acidity that's matched by the ripe red-berry fruits. It will be a wine for early drinking, from 2020.

The creamed raspberry and plum fruit glides along, with substantial but silky tannins and a long, spice-infused finish. Features a lovely violet hint.
