The 2018 Le Carillon d'Angélus is silky, pliant and wonderfully expressive. Dark red cherry fruit, mocha, cedar and dried flowers all flesh out. The Carillon benefits immensely from air, which really brings out its aromatic presence and layers. Silky tannins wrap around the finish. This is such a pretty wine.

Composed of 85% Merlot and 15% Cabernet Franc, the medium to deep garnet-purple colored 2018 Le Carillon d'Angélus rolls out of the glass with upfront notions of baked plums, stewed black cherries and raspberry pie, plus suggestions of potpourri, Chinese five spice, tilled soil and tobacco leaf. The medium to full-bodied palate is generous and spicy, supported by soft tannins and just enough freshness, finishing savory.

I loved the 2018 Carillon D'Angélus. This Merlot-dominated blend (there's 15% Cabernet Franc) offers a healthy ruby/purple color as well as a complex, smoky bouquet of ripe black fruits, graphite, tobacco, and a kiss of earth. Rich, medium to full-bodied, and beautifully balanced, it has a sexy, seamless texture, polished tannins, and the class to drink nicely for 15 years or more.

Better in bottle than in barrel, this stellar baby version of Angelus hits all the right marks. Lushly textured, rich, ripe, opulent and forward, all the sweet, ripe, plums, cherries, licorice and cocoa feels like pure silk on the palate. Enjoy this while waiting for Chateau Angelus to mature. The wine was made from 85% Merlot and 15% Cabernet Franc.

As explained in my original notes from barrel, the 2018 Carillon d’Angélus is augmented by an additional eight hectares from recent acquisitions: three hectares in Tour St. Christophe and five hectares between Cheval Blanc and Figeac. This has developed on the nose, gaining a little more precision and revealing blackberry, raspberry, orange peel and light rose petal scents, the new oak still beautifully integrated. The palate is very well balanced with grainy tannins, and velvety-smooth. Just a faint graphite element tinctures the black fruit, and there is an almost Left Bank structure to the briny finish. Excellent.

Wild-strawberry, blackberry and blueberry aromas with some spices and herbs. It’s full-bodied with a balance of firm yet elegant tannins. The savory mid-palate leads to a clean finale with serious length. Hard not to drink this now, but it needs four or five years to show its true excellence. Second wine of Angelus. Try after 2025.

The 2018 Carillon d’Angélus includes additional grapes from 8 hectares of recent acquisitions (3 hectares in Tour St. Christophe and 5 hectares between Cheval Blanc and Figeac). It is far better than the 2017. Black cherries, raspberry coulis and subtle orange pith aromas with well integrated new oak. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannins, plenty of lightly spiced red fruit with a fine saline finish. This is a very commendable Deuxième Vin.

Il s'avance sur des notes épicées et fruitées d'une bonne intensité.  Bien tramé il présente une structure assez ferme avec peu de milieu de bouche et une finale souple dotée d'une bonne rémanence de fruit.

No longer a second wine as the parcels once produced, Le Carillon de l'Angélus 2018 is undoubtedly a step up in quality. The floral nose with its licorice, ripe plum and smoke, seeks out your attention. On the palate, the wine is medium-bodied and fresh and the finish is all about the elegance and sweetness in the fruit. The wine was made from 85% Merlot and 15% Cabernet Franc.

A blend of 85% Merlot and 15% Cabernet Franc, the deep garnet-purple colored 2018 Le Carillon d'Angélus comes bounding out of the glass with bold notes of crushed blackberries, black raspberries and wild blueberries plus hints of spice box, damp soil, smoked meats and fallen leaves plus a waft of menthol. Medium to full-bodied, the palate delivers mouth-coating black and blue fruits with firm, rounded tannins and lovely freshness, finishing long and earthy.

This is a really together second wine of Angélus with a tight and focused center palate of blackberries and hints of chocolate and hazelnuts. Firm and very fine tannins and a long and persistent finish.

Bright tobacco and herb notes sparkle out front until the black currant and blackberry compote flavors catch up. The solidly grippy finish shows a dark, slightly brooding profile. Distinctive.
