Cap d'Or - Saint-Georges Saint-Emilion 2022

Cap d’Or is the chateau’s second wine, but rather than being secondary it is rather its feminine counterpart. This femininity reveals itself in a floral, raspberry touch and in freshness and minerality. The wine is fine and seductive, with a very delicate hint of oak that reinforces the fruit and the terroir.

VINEYARD:
Total surface of 19 ha: 84 % Merlot -9 % Cabernet Franc -7 % Cabernet Sauvignon.
Density of plantation: 6250 to 7400 plants/ha. Average age of the vineyard: 36 years.
Soil: clayey and chalky. South exposure for 12ha, SW exposure for 7ha.

WINEMAKING:
Double sorting of the crop: in the vineyard and at the winery.
Punching of the caps every 3 hours until 1070 density, then every 6 hours until 1050 density and once a day until 1000 density. Temperature during alcoholic fermentations : 26°Cmax.
Vatting period: 15 to 21 days.

Cap d’Or 2022 showcases the delicate and transparent qualities of limestone-clay soil in perfect measure. At first taste, the crisp and juicy cherry fruit is accompanied by the lingering fragrance of peony flowers. The ideal acidity flows through on the palate, giving an overall refreshing taste. Given the current tannin structure, it will require aging for at least 5 years to exhibit a more leisurely posture.

Jean-Philippe Janoueix; always a pretty highly charged wine, and it continues in this vein in 2022, but well balanced by the liestman grip of the soils, , 40hl/h yield,, Vivid ruby in colour, with bright berry fruits on the opening. right red fruits enjoyable; 90.

La fraîcheur ne fait jamais défaut à Cap d'Or et le 2022 le rappelle de manière démonstrative ! Les nuances de baies rouges vont de pair avec des notes crayeuses qui mettent les papilles gustatives en alerte ! En bouche, le vin est juteux et soutenu par une structure qui cautionne fraîcheur et salinité. Un vin de caractère qui passe à travers le millésime. Il sait ce qu'il a à faire, et il le fait bien. Il faut dire que Jean-Philippe Janoueix est très à son écoute. 2026-2042 94/100

The 2022 Cap d'Or is a tasty, fruity wine to drink now and over the next few years while the fruit remains vibrant. There is some edginess in the tannin and some green notes, but in the right setting, this will be a solid drinker.

Que d'authenticité et de complexité dans le bouquet de Cap d'Or ! Il brille de la fraîcheur de son terroir argilo-calcaire au travers de notes crayeuses. Invitantes notes de framboises et de sureau complétées par de rafraîchissantes notes de menthe. Friand et juteux, le vin est doté de tannins précis en phase avec la tension de la structure acide. Un vin sapide, légèrement salin et persistant.

The 2022 Cap d'Or is the second wine of Cap St. George. It presents lovely red/purplish fruit, rose petal and spice, along with firm tannins that hopefully will soften with élevage. The purity of the fruit is notable. Drinking window : 2025-2032

Smoke, licorice, black cherries, and graphite, the wine is medium-bodied, round, and fruity with a plummy finish. Already approachable, this is going to drink well in its youth. The wine blends 84% Merlot, 8% Cabernet Franc and 8% Cabernet Sauvignon. Drink from 2025-2032.
