Cambon la pelouse - Haut-Médoc 2018

Cambon La Pelouse, Cru Bourgeois Exceptionnel

Purchased in 2019 by Treasury Wine Estates, Château Cambon La Pelouse is ideally located between Cantemerle and Giscours, on the border of the Margaux AOC. The consistent quality of its wine through the vintages was rewarded in 2020 when the property was promoted to Cru Bourgeois Exceptionnel.

Medium bodied, with loads of fresh, sweet, ripe red fruits, tobacco leaf and herbs. On the palate, the wine is earthy, fruity and with a strong tobacco and cedar component in the mid-palate and in the finish. The wine is made from a blend of 50% Merlot, 47% Cabernet Sauvignon and 3% Petit Verdot.

The 2018 Cambon de Palouse shows signs of greenness on the nose, perhaps more so than when I tasted it from barrel. The palate is hard on the entry and quite austere, with a dry woody finish. I reckon the fruit will fade long before the rather aggressive tannins. Tasted twice.

Alluring tobacco and dark tea notes lead the way while a caressing set of cassis and black cherry purée flavors follow closely. Cedar echo on the finish. Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Petit Verdot. Drink now through 2025. 19,165 cases made. –JM

Black currant, ash, black-olive and dried-herb aromas. It’s medium-to full-bodied with powdery, fine-grained tannins. Drink or hold.

The 2018 Cambon de Palouse offers ripe blue and red berry fruit on the floral nose, which lacks the cohesion and delineation of the best Haut-Médocs in this vintage. The medium-bodied palate is firm and grippy, displaying slightly hard tannins and an assertive, slightly astringent finish. This feels a little "pushed" at the expense of harmony and personality.

Cambon La Pelouse is gorgeous in 2018. Pliant, creamy and enveloping, the 2018 is already quite delicious, even in the early going. Sweet red cherry jam, mocha, licorice and spice build as this super-expressive Haut-Médoc Cru Bourgeois shows off its alluring personality. In 2018 Cambon La Pelouse offers tons of appeal. The blend is 55% Cabernet Sauvignon, 41% Merlot and 4% Petit Verdot. Tasted two times.

Round, soft, round, forward, medium-bodied earthy charmer with the character of ripe, red fruits, tobacco, espresso and currants in the finish. This is not for long-term aging. So give it a few years and enjoy it over the next 10-12 years or perhaps longer. The wine is made from a blend of 50% Merlot, 47% Cabernet Sauvignon and 3% Petit Verdot.

Deep garnet-purple colored, the 2018 Cambon la Pelouse is scented of cedar, tar and earth with a core of warm plums and cassis with mocha and lavender hints. The palate is full-bodied, firm and laden with fruit, supported by grainy tannins and finishing long.

A vivid and focused young Bordeaux with blackcurrant and blueberry aromas and flavors. Medium body and fine, polished tannins. Bright finish.

The plum and blackberry fruit is bright and pure, with a lightly toasted, slightly chewy finish taking over. Should round into form.
