Cambon la pelouse - Haut-Médoc 2017

Cambon La Pelouse, Cru Bourgeois Exceptionnel

Purchased in 2019 by Treasury Wine Estates, Château Cambon La Pelouse is ideally located between Cantemerle and Giscours, on the border of the Margaux AOC. The consistent quality of its wine through the vintages was rewarded in 2020 when the property was promoted to Cru Bourgeois Exceptionnel.

This estate in the southern part of the Haut-Médoc region has produced a powerfully dense wine. Luscious black fruits and concentrated tannins are lifted by the year's wood aging. Licorice and a firm edge of tannin give this wine the structure to allow it to age. Drink from 2023.

The 2017 Cambon la Pelouse is deep garnet-purple colored with aromas of baked plum, stewed tea and blackcurrant pastilles with notes of bay leaves and pencil shavings. The palate is medium-bodied, firm and chewy with a decent core and lively finish. Drinking Window : 2020 - 2027

The 2017 Cambon La Pelouse is a pretty, savory Haut-Médoc Cru Bourgeois to drink now and over the next few years. Grilled herbs, mint, tobacco, cedar and dried cherry give the 2017 lovely aromatic presence. On the palate, the 2017 is a bit slender, and yet all the elements are very nicely balanced. I would prefer to drink it over the next few years.

This packs in some bramble, black cherry and blackberry fruit flavors, harnessing them with a singed alder frame and keeping them moving along with fresh acidity. Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Petit Verdot. Drink now through 2025. 13,333 cases made. — JM

Fruits rouges, gelée de framboise, bouche souple, élégante, tanins veloutés, bonne matière, finale marquée par la prise de bois.

The 2017 Château Cambon La Pelouse is another inky-colored Médoc from the team of Hubert de Boüard. Tons of ripe black and blue fruits, crushed violets, and hints of graphite give way to a medium to full-bodied, ripe, beautifully concentrated beauty that's going to be a hidden gem in this vintage.

A well-priced, easy drinking, soft textured, medium-bodied wine that is already showing its earthy, bright fruit and tobacco charms. This is not for aging, it is, however perfect for near term consumption.

The 2017 Cambon la Pelouse is austere and mean on the nose and desperately needs more fruit to come through. The palate is medium-bodied with dry tannin, very simple compared to its peers and fading on the finish. This estate can produce good Bordeaux but this is not one of them.

Dichtes Gra-natrubin.

This spicy wine is structured and firm, with concentrated yet juicy cassis flavors. The tannins at the end promise plenty of aging. Drink from 2022.

Tight and a little lean on the palate. Medium body, firm tannins and a fresh finish.

Gentle cassis and cherry preserve flavors are carried by light chalky tannins. A floral note runs through the finish.—J.M.
