En quelques années, Calon-Ségur, déjà très apprécié et réputé sous l’aire de Mme Capbern-Gasqueton, est devenu un des fleurons du Bordelais et poursuit son ascension avec cette grande réussite. Notes merveilleuses de baies des bois, de pivoine, d’épices douces. Bouche impressionnante par sa densité maîtrisée et son originalité d’expression. Le tanin est dense, profond, complexe avec ce côté floral-épicé et noblement terrien du cru qui, dans ce millésime, représente 40 % du volume total de la récolte.

Produced from a blend of 82% Cabernet Sauvignon, 16% Merlot and 2% Petit Verdot, this wine reached 13.3% alcohol with a pH of 3.75.

The 2015 Calon Segur is a blend of 82% Cabernet Sauvignon, 16% Merlot and 2% Petit Verdot (no Cabernet Franc in the Grand Vin this year). It was picked from 8 September until 5 October at a yield of 47 hl/ha and is matured in 100% new oak for the next 20 months. The Cabernet Sauvignon dominates the aromatics with blackberry, cedar and graphite aromas: quite linear, nicely focused and reserved compared to the 2014 last year. The palate is understated on the entry, the tannin very fine and the acidity very well judged. Like the nose, the Cabernet drives this wine forward: structured and a little "brittle" in the mouth, perhaps the most Pauillac-like Calon-Segur that I have encountered over many years of tasting. Afford this several years in bottle.

Grand vin onctueux, grain précis, allonge suave. Grande couleur, nez d’un équilibre et d’une harmonie déjà remarquables, corps complet, tannin noblement intégré à la matière, maturité idéale du raisin, grand vin à coup sûr, peut-être le plus attachant par son fruit dans ce millésime à Saint-Estèphe. Dans la grande lignée des années précédentes, le vin redevient un incontournable du Médoc. Fort pourcentage de cabernet-sauvignon (plus de 80 %), sans doute le plus élevé de Saint-Estèphe.

The 2015 Calon Ségur is super-polished, silky and exceptionally beautiful, especially for the vintage and appellation. Creamy, expressive and inviting, the 2015 possesses striking nuance and delineation throughout. Dark blue and purplish fruits, lavender, herbs, menthol and licorice add the closing shades of nuance. I don't think the 2015 will match the superb 2014, but it is a very pretty, if somewhat smaller-scaled, wine. Tasted three times.

Really lovely bouquet: totally aromatic and full of finesse and restrained power. Great charm and purity of fruit on the palate, showing lovely precision and persistence. This château continues on its progression to the top.

Dark crimson. Pure and aromatic. Pretty dense and dry with a hint of sweet oak. Solid and concentrated. All set for the long term. Pretty introvert. Edgy finish but more sweetness than there used to be. Intense - more intense than usual for this property. A little attenuated on the end. Very solid indeed!

Barrel Sample. With 82% of Cabernet Sauvignon (more than usual), this is a classic juicy, black currant-flavored Bordeaux. It has great style, its juicy, crisp character shining through. The tannins are right there, shaping the delicious fruits. 95 points
