Tasted at Bordeaux Index's annual 10-Year On tasting in London.The 2006 Château Brane-Cantenac has a typical nose from the estate, although it is more reminiscent of a Saint Julien than a Pauillac: savory red berry fruit, tertiary notes and sandalwood developing with time in the glass. The palate is medium-bodied with grainy tannin, a slight green-ish tinge underneath, quite structured and with plenty of freshness towards the finish. My quibble is that for a Brane-Cantenac it is more developed than its peers. As such, it is drinking better than the 2005 at the moment since the preceding vintage requires more bottle age. That said, I would not be inclined to cellar it any more than a dozen more years. Tasted January 2016.

Very dark crimson. Sweet start and then pretty tough and austere. Very chewy indeed on the finish. Pencil shavings. But it was quite succulent and improved in the glass. Drink 2015-2023

Displays plum jam and currant bush on the nose. Full-bodied, with sweet, ripe fruit, soft, round tanins and a long finish. Slightly loose knit at the moment, but will come together with bottle age. Builds on your palate. Needs time. Best after 2013. Tasted twice, with consistent notes.

I can’t say enough about how beautifully classic, racy, and gracious the wines of Brane Cantenac have become over the last decade. The stunningly elegant 2006 exhibits a sweet, subtle smoke note intermixed with creme de cassis in its medium-bodied style with superb nobility, concentration, and sweet tannin. Possessing a complex, luscious personality with strikingly beautiful, velvety tannins, it should be at its finest between 2012-2025+.

La note est extactement la même que celle attribuée lors des primeurs. C'est un des millésimes les plus marqués par le cabernet sauvignon de la propriété. Il en contient 60%. La couleur est sombre, belle et le nez fruité, frais, mûr et fin. Un brin discret, il prend de plus en plus de présence et s'achève avec un goût et un arôme très particulier. Tannicité très nuancée. C'est très bon. Attendre 2013 et avant 2040.

Deep red. Scented, complex nose melds currant, flowers, tobacco, smoke and chocolate mint. Sweet, smooth and mellow but with juicy acidity giving the wine balance and vinosity. Finishes with sweet tannins and subtle persistence. Showing well today.

Red-ruby. Aromas of black plum, violet and bitter chocolate. Juicy and pliant but showing its oaky side now, with a strong torrefaction quality of dark chocolate currently overshadowing the wine's fruit. But this is quite supple and the tannins are in balance with the wine's fruit.

Eleganter, fülliger Fluss, seidige Tannine, wunderschöne Balance, über die Zunge fliessend, ie ein grosser, hoch feiner Chambertin. Finesse pur. Robe pourpre-rubis, beau contour extérieur. Au nez, un arôme noble et vaste de mûre, des notes marquées de chocolat, de prune mûre, très amples. EN bouche, élégant, rond, des tannins soyeux, un équilibre magnifique. Se fond sur la langue comme un grand Chambertin des plus fins. De la pure finesse.

Tasted at the UGC. The nose is rather muted, faint scents of raspberry leaf with a touch of brown sugar in the back ground. Ripe, bit lacking some definition. The palate is full-bodied with spicy red-berried fruit, lacking a little freshness and vitality. Tannic, slightly green on the finish. A little underwhelming to be honest. (86-88) Tasted again in London where again the nose took some coaxing before revealing a ripe nose with more cigar box aromas than in Bordeaux. It also has a little more vigour on the palate with tobacco and blackberry leaf on the finish that still has a touch of greenness. (88-90)

Reasonably deep crimson. Full, meaty, even slightly bloody. Very upfront rather simple sweet fruit and hardly detectable tannin. Certainly could not be accused of an excess of ambition... Bit of a wimp really.
